HELP! USB Malfunction when I try to plug in my external hard drive....

Is this an issue with the cable or with the actual hard drive?
I am able to access it very seldomly, maybe once every ten tries and lasts no longer then 5 - 10 minutes...
Anyone have any suggestions?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you properly disconnect with the lil icon in the system tray ?

Its like a lil green arrow.

Remove hardware safely thingy ?

sometimes we do... but usually it's turn off the power supply on the hard drive itself first....

Just turn off a Linux Box once without unmounting. Oh man...
