Mac Users
i just got my paychecque, and i plan to blow it all towards a new MacBook laptop. I love how the black one looks. but i wanted to get the Apple Care plan, so its a choice between either that or upgrading to the 1 Gig ram. i know macs are really efficienct as is, but would it be worth it to get the upgrade from 512 --> 1 gig ram, im mainly gonna use it for internet use, recording my mixes, minimal to no production. i know in highschool when i had a PowerBook, 256 Ram went a whole long way. But im wondering with the new Intel chip, will it make a difference?

for recording, and basic vid editing you will want to use a external fw or usb 2.0 drive wich spins at the very LEAST 7200rpm. if you record to the sluggish 5400rpm internal drive you will experience audio drop outs. keep it at 60 for system, data, documents and basic media. use the money saved and go with a external multimedia drive. a sleek external drive with a ram upgrade and your mac is going to really fly! |

been following every mac forum, visit apple.ca daily, and all of the major music gear forums scouring for reports.(argh fucking hell digidesign!!!!) ive heard the MBP's do run hot, its getting to be a concern for people using them in clubs for digital dj'ing or triggereing sequence's live from albeton. i havent seen any 'neged reports yet of the MB's though. only that apple hit a home run with the MB's aside from the lack of decent video memory... can you link up any issues you have come across with the MB's???...it would sure help. |

You sound like me :)
Looks like this guy had an isolated incident but his new one still ran warm http://www.notebookreview.com/defaul...=Apple+MacBook This is a thread about the macbook at another forum http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=202247 and another forum with pictures from the service manual but who knows if the Macbook is actually built like this http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?t=295925 There was another thread somewhere as well. A guy recieved his macbook with protective clear plastic covering the cooling vent. Turns out there were a few others with the same problem. I'm in the market for the 17" pro but I'm waiting for that Rev B, I'm hoping it will happen in the next couple months. Maybe in August during the developers conference. Quote:

yeah mostly, I'm tossing around the idea of using it as my main work computer now with boot camp. Since my laptop now is 1920*1200 and I use it in a dual monitor config with a 21 inch 1600*1200 at work so I definately want the 17"
The 17" would be better for watching movies on as well :) Quote:

i dont know anything about the macbook..but i know the appleplan is definately worth it. you can buy it with a student discount too..so get a friend to buy it, or just get some student id number off someone. the apple plan covers lots of small fuckups.. i have really bad luck with technology and it has saved my wallet a few times already. my charger kinda blew up...replaced, white spots on my screen..replaced, some drive thing died..replaced. its worth it.

MacBook Pro's are just too expensive. i sure wish i had the money, but im not planning on doing gaming on there anyways. Just basic internet use, some college made physics and calculus progs, simple audio prod/rec, word processing. basic school stuff with a little extra. im gonna go chek em out tommorow. and as long as the MacBooks are better than the PowerBooks (which i thought were amazing) im all set. It is said to be at LEAST 5x faster. and i love the integration of the iSight, and many other features.
and thanks bebu, that helped. |
