resume question(s)
Question, I've written resume's before,
but I've never realy been clear on what the "objective" part was for.. I mean, I'm still in grade 12, so I don't know what job it is I want in the future, do I still write down something? and if so... what kind of thing? like for example.. if I was thinking of becoming a lawyer or something do I put down "lawyer" or is it more descriptive than that... I wanna get my resme down perfect, I'm making one last attempt at a job, and I think that this might go okay... please help me out.. thanks. |

you mean manditory?
hmm that's a good one...so then I guess it doesn't have to be specific? cuz I'm clueles... I've seen some sample resume's and I don't know how people come up with such amazing formats... whoa... anyways, thanks for your input... it's still a little unclear though...hmm |

Ahhhh...
This is something I actually specialize in. I speak at colleges and universities all the time on resume writing and interviewing techniques.
Forget an objective. We all know what your objective is... to get a job! Instead, start off your resume with a brief 3-4 sentence summarization of yourself. Cover off things on how organized you are, how quickly you can learn. If you need an example, let me know. Good luck! |

Put down something like:
Objective: To obtain the skills required to advance my career goal of becoming a "whatever". That will do for the now as you are new to the workforce. Once you have skills and experience under your belt you need to tailor the resume for the job you wish to apply for. Let me know if you want some examples and I'll fire over my resume to you. Some people love it, others hate it, but I know it works since I've won 56 contract jobs with it in the last 6 years. There must be something those resume filtering people like to see. Now that I am in the position to filter resumes, I've seen the good and the bad/ugly. |

I agree with you Rawb, but for a person without any experience an objective helps. At least it will give the revierwe/employer an idea of what you want to do.
Once you have expereience listed on your resume then an objective can screw you over if the work you have done doesn't match up to the objective you have set. |

thanks for the many suggestions guys, it's comiga little clearer.
however this sucks because I don't have much of an idea of what I want to do in the future, and how it ties in to the job that I'm applying for.. "to obtain skills in becoming an iga cashier?" hee hee... no i won't write that... i'll think up something. thanks guys, |

actually, i've just finished a written communications course, and that's exactly what we were taught... instead of objective, write profile... tell what makes u different from others eg. a diligent, enthusiastic, hard worker who enjoys challenges.....etc. |

Yoko,
If you do not have a set goal or objective then don't bother putting one in. Just work on the resume, keep it to the point and clean then state your objective in a simple cover letter. I don't have an objective or profile in my resume, just a summary of my skills. Obviously if they have my resume then i want to work for them, but since I laid out what I can do then it makes it easier for them to find the skill they are looking for. |

thanks winston..
I'm gonna quit procrastinating.. now to introduce myself to the manager and blah blah I wish they had like.. some "how to write a resume" video... with a Part two: "How to hand in your resume without freaking out" yikes, wish me a leg-breaking... |

no i was only trying to put off having to walk down to hand in my resume...
no procrastinating in general... I just finished it today, handed it in, and well he said that my french fluency was a good thing.. but I think they're looking for full-timers, we'll see :( Insteads of going to the library I used the internet instead... I don't know if that's a good idea or not, but there are some good websites and tips out there... esp. monster.ca anyhooz... what am I rambling about, goodnight. |
