At least eight government officials in Vietnam are facing suspension for not singing karaoke at a business gathering.

The state run oil company Petrovietnam has ordered 21 officials to make “self criticism reports” for not stepping up to the mic with their colleagues at a contract signing ceremony.

"We all thought we had completed our company obligation and contributed to the success of the ceremony," a letter to department heads said. "We were only thinking of our family back in Hanoi, the kids and the wives waiting."

A company official said, "No one has been laid off yet but they have to criticize themselves for not participating in collective activities."

Nothing like forcing people to have fun.
