Anyone here meditate?
teach yourself?
took classes? how did you learn, and what do you think about it ? worth the time to learn? it's something that's really interested me but i don't know if i can clear my mind like that... i've always had a million and one thoughts in my head - and the ability to clear my mind would be amazing from time to time.. |

I used to meditate every night, and still do a few times a week. I'm "self-taught", I guess, seeing as I basically read up on the basics of meditation and experimented for a bit until I began to achieve results.
What finally worked for me was having something very mundane and unobtrusive to focus on, which in my case was my breathing. I normally have ambient music playing, and with each breath I say "In" and "Out" inside my head, focusing on both the act of breathing and repeating the mantra in my head. I normally spend about 30-45 minutes meditating in this fashion during a typical session, but I've spent an hour and a half before. It felt like perhaps 30 minutes tops. |

My aunt does for a few hours a day and she says its the best part of her day.
I'd say it's probably a really good idea to take a class if you have time/money to spare to get you set up on the right track for it, because its just like doing yoga at home..you can do it, but you might be doing it wrong and developing bad habits. I know a ton of yoga studios that offer various meditation classes, so I guess it all depends on what style you're looking for and what you're hoping to gain from it. |
