10 Days Quit Smoking

I've been a heavy smoker for the better part of 10 years and I'm trying to quit. It's been 10 smoke free days so wish me luck.

My plan so far has been to use nicorette as needed but as little as possible. The last few days I've had one or two pieces a day. This coming Friday I have an appointment with a Chinese medicine doctor to get an acupressure massage and some general advice on how to stay quit.

I want to have kids and a family some day so lung cancer just isn't an option. Also I just hate being an addict.

Suggestions/advice

thanx

Well I dno if you like cap'n blacks n' such, but I found that made quitting really easy. I just puffed on one of those once a day until I kicked the physical nicotene habit .. made it hardly noticable then after a while I felt great and didn't have cravings for either and just have a puff of cap'n every now and then .. then when you get to that stage you can decide to stop fully cause you don't have reliance on 3000chems.

I tried quittin a few times unsuccessfully this was the only thing that worked for me. Im sure everyone has their own way of doing it tho.

congrats for making the decision to quit and good luck.

i quit 4.8 years ago after many a smokin' years.
one thing that helped me was obtaining a non-smoking bf.

drink a lot of water, helps to cleanse the system.
try bikrams yoga to rid the body of toxicants.

also, since habitual smoking goes hand in hand with a lot of other thing (morning coffee, drinks on a patio, ect) you might find it helpful to change up your daily routine a bit.

example: if you have a coffee and a smoke on the way to work, eat a piece of fruit or a muffin on the way and wait until getting to work before having your first coffee

if you're a visual person you may find that keeping track on a calender will help to modivate you.

don't forget to set goals, and reward yourself when you reach those goals.

if you cheat, you're cheating no one but yourself

remember: you want a family and lung cancer is not an option

also, smokers stink.

Yeah oddly enough I've been drunk half the days since I quit, or at least had a couple drinks, and still haven't smoked at all. I guess in my mind I just keep reminding myself that it is a big deal and it's ALL or nothing. I still believe that if I had even one smoke I'd be back at a pack a day in a week or so.

senior! what's up, good to hear man.

i'm on day 6 myself actually. cold turkey so far, and it's working amazingly for some reason. even been able to drink without smoking.

for me, one thing that's keeping me motivated is the money thing. but not just vaguely saving money, its kinda like the goal/reward system, i've got a few recreational purchases that i'd be able to make in a snap once i've fully quit.

i kinda get to cheat, i smoke pot so that helps, but it's a double edge there, i'm so used to having an aftertoke smoke.

the strangest thing is that i've had a very minimal amount of cravings compared to the bazillion times i've tried to quit/cut down. i'm the type that would break down on day one for 'just a drag', then 'just a smoke' etc etc.

regardless, good luck and hopefully we both quit permanently

I tried about 12 times... Each with a different approach. tried the gum, patch, cold turkey (7 times). Nothing worked. Next one I am gona try is the gum again. Get addicted to the gum. And start chewing regular gum to get rid of the nicoteen (SP?).

Wow, you did it. I wish I could do the same. Well, maybe when I'm back home. Or if you mixed my tape, that could help! Mwha! ;) Anyway, I don't have any suggestions, but sport is def. good...find something you like, do it regularly and stick to it for at least a year...you'll see it makes you feel like a newborn! :)

You know I was one of the heaviest smokers I knew and not just that I really liked smoking. I tried a few times over the years to quit smoking but never really believed I could succeed. This time around I was completely scared to even try. What I did that was different is I set my quiting date a month in advance and told all of my friends and co-workers during that month when my quiting date was. Beyond that I thought about it every day and tried to come up with ideas that might help me quit. Also I used nicorette but as little as possible because I want to be nicotine free.

If I make it through today with no nicorette that will be 3 days nicotine free and as far as I know that means I will have beaten the physical addiction.

The awesome thing about cold turkey is that at 4 days it's all mental now. Don't give up man!!!

Yeah, cold turkey prestents the physcial addiction. The gum helps you get rid of the common place need to take a drag. I didn't tihnk of it that way when I was on the gum, and thought that fuck... I'll be addicted to this shit forever.
Well congrats to you man... More will power then I have ;).

JUST SAY NO!!!

I use to smoke socialy when I was young and it was very hard when I realised I needed to quite for good. I cant say much about the nicotine addiction, but socialy you have to force and find ways to just say no!

Ive cut my self cold trukey from caffine, alcohole, chocolate etc... you have to have to strong will power and say no every single time. Once you give in even just for one puff... then youll slip back in. The first bit is the hardest, but soon youll adapt and your in the clear.

I was thinking about your rewards idea and need to start saving my "smoke" money for something fun. Either way it seems like I have a lot more money.

P.S. Hi 5's for Karl, day 9 now I believe!
