Fraud
After having worked a couple potentially fraudulent accounts @ work, it sort of peaked my interest on the issue of fraud in general. I am definitely going to be a little more alert to where I disclose and how I dispose of my personal documents (not that I wasn't careful before). After finishing up my work training I immediately removed my resume information from employment websites because I never even really thought about what a wealth of opportunity it is for identity thieves. I'll probably think twice about giving out info over the phone unless if I was dialling out...
To think that someone can easily apply for and obtain a credit card under your name without your knowledge for years, and potentially meddle with YOUR credit score is quite a violating feeling :P When was the last time you looked into your credit rating? Anyone have any personal "identity theft" or fraud type stories to share? |

never really checked out my credit score, but i am very cautious on how i go about destroying or disposing of personal, financial, and government documents that pertain to my identity.
never really cared for it until my job made me sign this 4 page privacy and piracy form. holy jesus there are alot of ways that someone could get ahold of what would seem like "harmless" information, until you find out what someone can do with it. |

Back when I finished high school, I thought it was a good time to get a cell phone, so I went up to fido and signed all the paperwork assuming everything was going to go through, I ended up getting denied cause they told me that I had bad credit from some student loans I didnt pay back. Like I said, I had just finished high school and was about to start working construction for 3 years straight, I hadnt even applied to any colleges let alone a student loan.
Apparently someone got a hold of my sin number and fucked around with it, who it was, I'll never know. |

I had my Debit Card apparently "copied"
The last and only time I used a third party ATM MAchine. There apparently was a camera on top of the machine to record what pins were used. Somehow they copied my card and used all my money... I was broke for 2 months.... My bank thought I did it and was goign to hold me liable until I begged the police to tel lthem it's impossble for me to get from coq to richmond in 15 minutes at 4:30 PM on a weekday. Everytime I used my debit card, I always cover the pin now... That was a rough time. |

I have never had fraud done against me...
But peeople call into the callcente i work for, claimimng fraud all the time... Sometimes the people say its fraud when its not and they're just lying.. its kinda funny knowing that those people are going to endup with a criminal investigation against themselves! |

CIBC: "Well you moved $1000 from your account to another email address" ME: "First of all, no i didn't. Why would you think that i did this?" CIBC: "It came from your email address sir" ME: "What email address is that?" CIBC: "[email protected]" ME: "You know anyone with an internet connection can create a hotmail account right?" CIBC: "Oh, that's not your email address?" ME: "No" CIBC: "Well, you shouldn't have given away your online password" ME: "I never have" CIBC: "You said it was writen down in your bag and that was stolen" ME: " I never said that, i said i had my account number in my bag" CIBC: "Well you must have shared your password with someone" ME: "No" CIBC: "Well how did someone that wasn't you log into your account then" ME: "Can you do something for me. Can you check your records and see when the last time was that i reset my online password via the phone" CIBC: "Ya, it was about 15 minutes before the email transfer, did you forget your password?" ME: "NO YOU STUPID FUCK, THAT's THE FUCKING IDENTITY THEIF YOU FOOL!" I didn't actually say that last thing, but i wanted to bitch slap this fscker through the phone. He was soo useless. It was soo frustrating. I called in the fraud 4 hours after it happend. I could have caught these fscks who did the fraud myself if they would have given me the information. |

I got a call at work one day from CIBC regarding my past due credit card. I never owned a CIBC credit card in my life. Not really a big hassle to get it cleared up, I got a copy of the application which showed the address it was set up for, not to far from where I used to live. Never went there though, should have, but didn't.. I wasn't sure if it was a fake address or not.
Anyways, yeah, that sucked. |

Me: "do you have any cibc products?" Cust: "We haven't been customers for 10 years!" I think identity thieves look out for people who recently moved houses so they can assume the identity & former home addresses of these people, and the REAL people would not have a clue as to what's going on because they no longer receive mail that is being sent to their former home addresses. |

I'm very paranoyed with my credit card. I never use it or carry it around unless im buying somthing on the net or traveling. Even then ive been very cuatious on the internet and double checking that im not on a fake imitation site etc and only buying off of well reputive companies (very few at that)
As for my debit I use to never worrie till recently. Especialy after I heard about Nolan's case. I block my code and am very carful where I leave my recipts around. I also hate giving out numbers/address etc now too just in case. |
