Thinking of buying a new bike

http://www.konaworld.com/shopping_ca...5&parentid=253

I haven't ridden in years and want to start riding Whistler and the Shore again. Anyone have current experience with mountain bikes? Anyway I'm looking at buying this bike.

A friend of mine owns a local bike company that builds high end free ride bikes. They are quite a bit more expensive than the one shown though. I'm not a rider myself but I've heard nothing but good things about his bikes. The only thing is I'm not sure if they are readily available to the general public yet.

I work at a shop and have been involved with bikes for years. How much do you want to spend? What was your last bike? Do you plan on climbing up or shuttling/chairlift riding more?

The Kona you posted (konas in general) are decent for the price point. That bike might be a little light for what you want. Swap out the pedals for flats and upgrade the fork and it would be more suited for what you want. If I were you I would also look at comparable Norcos in the same price range.

Do you want to know about that bike specifically or mountain bikes in general? What's your price range? I could pass the info onto my friend in N.van, she is crazy about mountain bikes and her bf is sponsored so i'm sure they have some good info for ya.

Well the reason I'm looking at this bike is I want an all mountain bike. I expect that I'll be riding uphill 4 times for every time I shuttle or take a lift. I used to ride a beefed up cross country bike on the Shore, so I can only imagine what I could do with this bike. Price wise I was looking at financing the bike so I don't really care honestly. I used to spend $100+ a month on smoking so I was looking at that as a ballpark monthly payment. The Norco's also look really nice! http://www.norco.com/ts/pass/templat...ol=mattesilver

I was looking at all mountain bikes because I've never really been interested in the pure down hill game. I also prefer riding clip less to flat pedal.

The norco's going to be a fair bit heavier than that kona, a good bike but I think the kona you've chosen would work better for the riding you describe. The other important consideration is fit. Take it for a test ride and see how the reach and front end height feel. It's cheaper to change out stems before purchase.

As far as all mountain bikes it's hard to beat specialized's enduro line. They are pricey however.

Another manufacturer to consider is Devinci. Made in Quebec at reasonable prices.

Devinci has always made great bikes, similar quality to Brodie I thought. I was looking at the Enduro but as you said they are $$$$$$. The one that I was stoked on retailed for $4999.

sweet shocks

if you haven't already check out www.nsmb.com or www.pinkbike.com
both sites have message boards and classifieds. you might be able to pick up a decent pre-riden ride and also get info about trail days and other riding related stuff.

Vancouver has a really good used bike market, everybody and their dog gets a deal from their buddies at their local shop and they are constantly flogging bikes. A brand new bike with a warranty is a bonus though, especially if you are buying a lighter bike to ride on the shore.
