decisions ...fu**

and it goes a little something like this..

welll for the past months ive really been thinking about getting a dog,Ive done research on breeds, and kennels and have narrowed it down to a few and have a plan of action...buut furst off i dont know if i want a puppy from a kennel and garanteed health ect,or a older dog from 6 months to two years old from rescue shelter that gets animals from kill shelters that have chance at life still. They have lots of sites where you can find for all sorts of dogs.Ive found this one pom i like..
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=6265455

and chi chi pups
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=6470343
orrr..

these random pomchis lol
http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAd-W0QQAdIdZ4837522

thats from rescue..What are your thoughts on geting a dog this way i know theres alot of dogs that need homes but im worried about its health, these dog usually have an unknown past, its not about the money either, its just the dogs welfare and the fact im investing alot of my time and taking the summer off for this dog,but if it gets sick im going to feel oblgated to spend even more time and i dont want something to interfere with my schooling ect.I dont want to sound selfish or unsure at all cuz thats now how im feeling, but ive chosen a dog that can live my life style with me so i can spend as much time possible!! with out loosing all of my social life.I know this is a huge responsibility like a kid, thats fine, ive gotten over party''n ALLL the time cuz i guess i partied to much in my days.I feel the dog will be a good responsibilityand challenge, teach me alot and ultamitly bring alot of happiness .

thhhenn..Theres the dogs from an acuall kennel, ive looked into alot of kennels and it comes down to donmar in cali there known for there poodles and ive herd alot about them,So im considering one of there poms

there gorgeous!

soo comments and opinions would be awsome!ive rambled on to prevent ppl from lecturing me,ii know what im getting my self into..

Personally I always have bought dogs from breeders. I tend to stay away from mixed breeds too. my 2 cents. good luck.

Well, I have 2 poms at home and let me tell you i felt the same way you do. I wanted a dog so badly and thought I could handle it. So my boyfriend bought me a pom. Things to keep in mind when you're looking at a pom :
- they need lots of grooming.
- fresh water everyday
- lots of excercise
- lots of toys to chew!!!!!!!!!!
- for the first year, you have to be with them all the time.

I never thought it would be as hard as it was. seriously. I love my dogs like my own flesh and blood. But it was hard. My advice to you is, definitley research your breeders because lots of people will try and sell anything as a pom. good luck and you can pm me if you need any info.. i have the names of alot of breeders in canada.

If you decide to adopt, Thunder is a gorgeous pup. :)
I love poms, they're just so cute n fluffy. lol. My mom has one, we've had him for about 13 years now. They're definitely very friendly and affectionate dogs from what I've seen.

I agree with most points, but not the stay with them all the time for a year. Thats ridiculous and couldnt be done if your a person with a job etc. My little guy was fine at 6 months or so to be left, yes we would leave the puppy training pads out and lots of bones but i dont see why the owner would have to be there all thet time. Although i dont think its fair to get a puppy when everyone in the household works full time, thats to much for a dog and they can rebel. Poms are alot of work yes but no different from other puppies. My min pin i had was the same. A puppy is a puppy they all take alot of work no matter the breed.

Saving a dog from the shelter would be wonderful, but get it checked by a vet if you feel worried.

When I was looking into buying a cat, I looked at buying different breeds, but ended up saving a kitten. I got mine from a shelter and he was hurt at the time but now he's happy and healthy. I would recommend getting the dog as young as possible if you go the shleter route though so that you can train it and mold it to what you want. But I know plenty of people who have bought dogs who are older and have had no porblems.

I didn't mean ALL the time, but my poms were under 3lbs until they were about 8 months so you really have to be careful.

Pure breeds have alot of problems

They don't live as long as mutts due to inbreeding.

I've had 2 pure breeds, and with all the health issues and the cost... I'd NEVER get one again.

rescue a mutt its the only way to go.

If you're going to adopt one, I say go for the older one..

For most people, if they're looking to adopt a pet they go for the young ones cause bigger ones may not seem as cute to them. This in turn leaves the shelter with older animals that always gets overlooked because of new youngins coming in.

this is true, but if it's an good bloodline it isnt' as bad
so of course it depends on the dog and it's history but just keep in mind not all purebreeds are better, like she said, a lot of those pure breeds are inbread which is completly wrong and a breeder will never tell you that they were. just be careful of going for a dog thinking that a purebreed is going to be a better dog..

i've had a pure breed samyoid and australian shepard
both of them got hip problems (it's in genetics for those types of dogs)
now my lab pitty is 7 and acts like a puppy no problems at all!
always has energy strong as she was as a puppy best dog i've ever owned and i got her from a shelter

They've always had those.
White is very rare and usually have very poor health.
Blue are gorgeous, red and fawn not so much.

I had a champion line dobie when I was a kid. She was amazing. I can't wait to get one once I own my own home, with a nice big yard for her to run in.

There are so great dobie breeders in BC - three of them are the same line as my dobie - two of her sons, one of her daughters, and one of her grand daughters!

As for small dogs, I already talked about havanese. They have very similar needs as a Pom would - they need to be brushed DAILY or else they will get horrible mats. They require regular, professional grooming. Be prepared to pay $50 - $100 per month for this.

both dogs ive owned have been mutts - and both have been loving and affectionate. we went from a 120 pound aikita cross, to an 18 pound carin terrior cross.
not all little dogs are yappy, you can train your dog to not be yappy. our big dog made way more noise then our little one.
plus all dogs are high maintence. wether its grooming, walking, diet, toys or basic health maintence, a pet is an investment and a family member. boht dogs we've had dont really get matts, i brush my little one once a week, maybe twice if she got into a fight with the hose. shes no where near a puppy, but still shouldnt\cant\isnt left alone for very long periodes of time. we make sure she gets "human" meals along with her dog food for great nutrition rather then the good nutrition she gets from her food. she gets toys weekly b\c as soon as she starts to rip them up, we throw them out so as she doesnt swallow any peices.
cats are the closest thing to a fuzzy low maintence pet, and even they come with their own responsibilities.

anyways, happy puppy\dog shopping! mocha (my baby) was the unwanted puppy, she was days away from being sent to the shelter when we got her from her parents. we actually called someone who had a sign saying puupies for sale on their lawn and thats where we got her from.
