Vancouver Canucks sign goalie Luongo to $27-million US, four-year deal
http://www.nhl.com/news/2006/06/276072.html
"The new deal will pay him $6 million in the first year, $6.5 million in the second year, $7 million in the third year, and $7.5 million in the final year. The contract also contains a no-trade clause for the final three years. Luongo becomes the highest-paid Canuck, ahead of captain Markus Naslund and his $6-million salary." ^ this is the part that interests me. What do you think? Fair or too much. 6 Million first year than 6.5 all the way up to 7.5 jesus. he better do damn good and the canucks better win their division at least. he's getting more than naslund soon to be 1.5 million more t han naslund |

I know but its a little costly u don't think. He's never played a single playoff game.
his last two seasons are 7 million and 7.5 million. the only other player i know makin that much is lidstrom of detroit and he is a proven player, regular season and playoff's u don't think its a little excessive. for any goalie to have that m uch |

numbers are deceptive. it works out to the same as khabibulin.
i'm not that big on paying an unproven player that much, but let's face facts, besides brodeur and kipper there's no one else even close. he's an elite goalie. i'm happy we have him long term. but wow we're gonna get mashed if he pulls a theodore. or turco. realistically though, during the next 4 years he should be wiping cloutier from the books in every category, and becoming #1 in every goalie record this team has. having luongo in net automatically makes us a contender. which automatically makes us a better destination for free agents or trades. |
