Yzerman hangs up his skates

after 22 years. one of the best players (i think) to lace up a pair of skates. |

Yzerman has done more than enough in his career. The last few seasons his knee's have been put through hell.
He commands so much respect and will be remember for his personality. How he played the game. The leadership he exhibited by playing hard game in game out. Not the most vocal captain but when on the ice he proved just how valueable he is to a team. I'm glad he's retiring he's left his mark. P.S: Jersey #19 is worn by alot of great players. |

Just spit it out do you think he is the best player. I don't think he is the best ever but I think he is one of the best ever. |

i do like the no two line rule but i really disliek alot of the rules including the shootout. It should at least be 5 skates aside if they are going to have a shootout |

I'd place him somewhere around 6 best ever though that is including all aspects of the game including leadership, achievements including internation competition |

Thats not entirely true. You can wisely re-enter the rings. Gretzky (as an example) didn't wait long enough to become a coach... I think you should wait 20 or even 25 years to become a coach. That way theres NO chance of players you played with/against still being on the ice. That would be an akward distraction for both the coach and the player.
He's wise to go into the managment/office ranking of the Wings. And should stay there till the time is right. |

He may not have been a big scorer but he scored over 40 goals one season and 32 another season both 100pt seasons.
Enough about Oates though i'll make a thread for debating players and who was best at which position. As a whole though ya Oates would be somewhere around 25-27 range I guess. But his playmakin abilities are rivaled by very few in the NHL. Though he did luck out by playing with some of the best pure goal scorer's in the league *neely and hull* Last edited by KenJi; Sep 27, 06 at 07:37 PM. |

Yzerman retired as a player. He is now V.P or Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Detroit Red Wings Organisation.
Basically if anything he would be watching the game from the upper level boxes. |
