it makes me wonder why this kind of music hasnt become mainstream. AND DONT THINK FOR A SECOND THAT I WANT IT TO.

its just on such a higher level... all underground hip hop is 100 fold better than that regurgitated bullshit you hear everywhere.

I've only heard a few tracks, but I dig his lyrics. Although his writing style and melody isn't that appealing to me, the messages are very appealing. He's conscious and intelligent. He'll never top PUTS for me though.

I can agree with you there People under the stairs are a solid group it takes alot to top that. I've seen atmosphere live and i've seen PUTS live and PUTS was a much better show. Although Atmosphere was also really good.

It should be obvious by now that "mainstream" has everything to do with money nowadays. If it's a catchy one hit sorta thing that may appeal to club girls or suburban kids who can pay for the cd, then a major will sign the act.

Why wouldn't you want it to become "Mainstream" either? Are you afraid of people ruining it? You didn't invent it, it's not something you own, you can't bogart it and hide it from people in hopes of "saving hip-hop" If they did become big, I'm sure it would be for a reason, ie: the work they have already showed, so they probably wouldn't have to conform and surely wouldn't change for money.

I lost track here and forgot where I was going with this.. I was mostly thinking about some other kid I knew that tries to "save hip-hop" so don't take it against you.

meh. I can't love an artist just because I connect to the lyrics. I'm a musician, I need to connect to the music as much as I do the words over top of it. He's talented, it's just not my schtick.

^^ Maybe it's because he writes in poetry sometimes and your brain can't handle that. ex. atmosphere - love life.

His style has changed a bit between the new lp and the older stuff. The production is wayyy better on the new LP.

ouch man. Are you attacking my intelligence? If so, all I'm going to say is I am a huge Leonard Cohen fan, who almost always writes in poetry. His music is simple and is there to simply set the mood of his poem, and it blends perfectly. Atmosphere's beats just don't do anything for me. . and if you read my previous post, I said I like his lyrics.. just not the music so much.

Yeah there was a point when I discovered anticon and all the artists that were involved in the thing and I was like 'omg this is real' but then after awhile I got really tired of a bunch of whiny white boys with weak flow. I can see where you're coming from.

I like hip hop with conscience, I just don't dig a lot of artists with that style anymore as much as I used to.

I hear this all the time. it's an easy mistake to make because slug is the only one you hear.

for everyone who doesnt know.. atmosphere is Slug, Ant, and Murs.

I like Atmosphere, they're not my favorite but I think they're pretty talented and I like quite a few of their songs.

I prefer a lot of the solo stuff Murs puts out, I think he's an exceptional MC
