how do I go about putting together a design portfolio??

So I have found the school Iw ant to attend and have applied for the fashion design program. but SURPRISE i have 5 days to put together a portfolio.... they say no originals will be returned but I am require to submit sketch book pages and sketches, art, sewing etc. how do I submit sketches and such when I wont be getting them back? I'm not sure about sewing samples, and I'm not sure if they return those.. those I am not willing to part with... but sketches from my sketch book, they are allover the place, so do I just compile them and sacrifice them to the school or what? Art I can take pictures of but I dont know about sketch book pages etc.

any help or tips would really be appreciated!!!

photos, scanners, if its an item of some sort, take multiple shots of closeups and angles.

nothing will be returned? thats strange...
are you allowed to submit slides of your peices or maybe a cd of them? slides you wont be able to get done quick enough, but if you have a day and night to sit down, scan your stuff and put it all on a cd into a slide show. i dont know if it would be the same, but most art schools (drawing, painting, ect.) that myself or my brother has applied to recommends sending in cd slide shows or slides, depending on the school.

if that isnt allowed, get ready to part with some peices...
i usually cut up my sketch books after they have been sitting around for awhile and take my favorite pages and rebind them into a smaller condensed version and either re-work the other pages or bind them and have a sketch book of things i dont neccessarily think are strong. anyways, you coudl always cut out your strongest sketches, and rebind them into a book, or get yourself one of those cheap but nice looking plastic folder things and place them in there.

out of curiosity, where are you applying?
and good luck! i didnt have the confidence this year to give'er and go for the textiles proram im looking into, hopefully next year it will be different - i love the excitment of applying, and the interviews and all that. i'm jealous.
