I have been playing professionally online since mid may. i now make 3 times as much per month (tax free as well) then i did at my old job (which was decent pay anyway.)
i've been playing for a little over two years, and seriously for a year.
having poker as a job is the greatest thing ive ever done for myself.
good points:

-make your own hours and are your own boss.

this is the greatest benefit to me. from having worked in hospitality since i was 17, not having a boss and choosing my own hours is amazing. no commute to work, no shitty boss to deal with, and no dealing with costomers.

-$$$$$
i am now on pace to make $100k tax free this year. with my limited education, and menial job experience there is no way i could make more then 40 k or so a year after taxes.
with poker the sky is the limit. there are 1000's of people in my estimation that make a living just playing online poker. many of these people are making 100k - 250k a year. the elite can make millions.

-doing something you love for a living.

my other hobby is dj'ing whic is fun and all, but very few can make a living at it. if you factor in the black crack addiction it is usually a very large expense (for me it was anyway between $500-1000 a month.)
poker is almost as fun as djing to me. i love it. i could do this for a very long time and not get board at it, as there is so much to learn in poker.

as for the people who are saying casino poker is the way to go and online poker is rigged: you have no idea what you are talking about.
a professional casino poker player has about 1/6 the earning power of an online player.
casino poker is more fun then online poker ill give it that, but ill only go to a casino once a month or so for shits and giggles.

there are some people who have got caught cheating at online poker, but the reputable poker sites (ei pokerstars, partypoker, fulltilt, prima, etc) have very strick regulations and will confiscate all the money in your account if they find out about cheating.
these sites make SO MUCH FRIGGIN MONEY, that people cheating on the site is VERY bad for business. they are very dilligent at catching them.

in summary: online poker=goot

really? how many hands have you played in the last year? i've played well over half a million. if you are a brick & motor player only, you have played significantly less.

this is very true. however, based upon my last 200, 000 hands, this is what i am on pace for. i have had many weeks of running badly since i started playing. i will have a losing month eventually. it is possible for me to loose 5k next month. i understand all of this.

If you had taken the time to read my post properly you would have seen this, "i could do this for a very long time and not get bored at it, as there is so much to learn in poker."does this sound like i think i know everything about poker? cmon man.

are you a live game(casino, home games) poker player only?
