Apparently this is NBC's number one show right now... I don't understand the appeal. I enjoy intelligent dramas as much as anyone. The concept is well thought out. The execution is where it fails, IMO.
There are just too many characters and story lines being pushed forward at once. There are so many threads they're trying to weave together that each story barely gets ten minutes of screen time (if that) on a weekly basis. What does this mean for the viewer?
It moves very slowly. It took ten episodes just to 'save the cheerleader, save the world' and they built it up so much for two months that when it happened it was totally unfulfilling and couldn't live up to the hype around it.
The only thing making this show watchable for me is Hero Nakamura (sp?) the time warping, mild-mannered, excitable Asian dude and his trusty sidekick translator. Seriously, if it wasn't for the brief light-hearted moments with this character, nobody would be watching. Except the horndogs watching for the cheerleader with super-healing abilities, they'd probably still watch it.
One thing that struck me is that NBC put this show on right after Prison Break on Fox. Way to capture instant viewers. Good move for the Fall season...but what happens when 24 starts up again in January and resumes in its regular Monday 9pm slot?
