Children of Men
Saw the movie yesterday and walked out of it not exactly knowing what to think. Although the concept that was brought forth was a very remarkable one and came kind of close to home seeing as the movie is set in 2027... I found it flat and I was disappointed in Clive Owens. Usually as an actor, he does not disappoint.. but I was not impressed with his performance, mind you it's not entirely his fault, the script was lacking.
The comic relief they tried to bring to the over all depressing aura and atmosphere of the movie, took away from the movie's message, and Michael Kain, though a fabulous performance... was the only aspect of the movie that should have been "comic relief." Thoroughly disappointed, camera and angles were good, as was the score, however, it was not enough to impress me and the ending is weak weak sauce. Anyone else seen it? I give it a 4/10 |

I absolutely loved it, I think the dry British humour and the British setting may have appealed to me a bit more than you though. I thought the scene in the car was absolutely incredible - the whole thing done in a single shot - and you have to love the intensity of the battle scenes at the end. Plus it was nice to see a non-guns-blazing hero for once.

I thought it was an excellent flick, theres not alot of chase movies nowadays where the protagonist is running around in his sandals while trying to continue the existance of man. Also, the car chase scenes were engrossing and graphic, not overdone, but just enough to make it believable. The movie is basically a chase flick in a dystopian setting, if you didnt know this going into the movie expecting some deep artsy philisophical message behind the story, then you'll be dissapointed.
The ending was meant to be open ended, were you dissatisfied with this ending in particular? or do you not like that style of ending (which has been done in alot of other movies). Its a good movie, not Oscar worthy, but still a good chase flick, comparable to The Fugitive, just with shittier acting. |

Children of Men
This is going to be one of my favs for sure this year. I found the humour to be a great touch. The single take action scenes were the best I've ever seen. I can't really add much to what everyone else said but I found the movie very real. I enjoyed that one part towards the end when all the soldiers stop firing for like 2 minutes as the main characters walk out the apartment. For a minute there I was thinking "Could this be the end?" The looks on the soldiers faces were so human, so kind, and embracing. |
