I'm going to concede before I have to argue semantics one more time haha. I love Hardcore and I agree that there are still bands putting out the true Hardcore sound. It does exist. However, the media has used the term as of late on poppy punk bands that chose to scream instead of sing about the shit in their lives and THAT was what I was bashing.

In conclusion, Hardcore exists and does not suck. Nu-Hardcore, being the poorly labelled wave of Screamo and heavy Emo bands that completely give the traditional sound a bad name, does.

Not really... nu-metal came and went man. Even the bands that fit the genre that have carried on have changed their sound. If you're trying to peg what's really genre-typed as 'The New Wave of American Metal' as mostly garbage then I'd have to whole heartedly disagree with you.

Nu-Metal: Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, SOAD, Mudvayne, Papa Roach, Coal Chamber.... they came in with a sound but if you listen to newer albums that trademark grunge/rap/electronic fusion has disappeared.

New Wave of American Metal: Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Shadows Fall, Darkest Hour God Forbid.... and many more obviously. Balls to the wall blastbeats and riffs... no nu-metal here.

Hell even metal today in general.... most of it is crazy fucking good. Look at the bands coming from overseas like Opeth or technical prog-metal like Isis.

Anyway... my point mostly being that nu-metal no longer exists as a current genre and you made it sound like a lot of current metal fit the bill. I'll have to disagree with you on that!

Kinda but not really.... they interview Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) about his involvement in early HC but that's it. GWAR doesn't really fit the hardcore bill! haha

I didn't expect anything huge.

I just saw Gwar on the list on bands.

Bands I consider Nu-Metal (and dislike): Slipknot, Mudvayne (post LD 5.0 which was Math Metal through and through) Godsmack, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, etc, etc etc.

I know there was a brief moment in the spark of Nu-Metal that kind of lumped all these new sounds together because they had nowhere else to go. Deftones is definately a major example of this because really, who else did they sound like at the time? Korn, no matter what genre you put them in, had a sound like nobody else. They're still putting out music nobody can copy, although I haven't really liked them after Issues... Untouchables was alright, mind you, just not really for me. System, again, is a band that came out with a killer new sound but it wouldn't be until Toxicity that I'd call them Nu-Metal.

Maybe arguing genres is pointless because it's all insanely subjective unless we set some very solid ground rules as to what defines each sub-genre.
