intervention
good grief. I hate this show. it's so depressing.
Do you watch it? Do you guys/gals think that this show helps people's awareness of drug or alcohol addiction? Or do you think it could have a backwards affect for some? Like... someone could say "Hey! I feel the EXACT SAME WAY that guy does!" Personally, i think people watch it for the same reason why people watch J. Springer. So that viewers can see people who are in shittier positions than themselves so that they can feel better about themselves after comparison. [edit - with that said, intervention is still very television worthy. It's also educational.] I HATE the scenes where you can actually see them dose. Freaks me out man. thoughts? |

I hardly feel better about myself after watching this. If anything it helps people become more aware and compassionate towards people who have addiction problems. Instead of writing them off as druggie losers they realize that most of them are good people who have fallen into bad circumstances.
When you get the little blurb at the end you WANT to see that they've succeeded in staying sober. You're rooting for them. It's all about base human compassion. |

Some of those people you just want to strangle though. They do everything to refuse treatment then at the end they are like "John was in rehab for 4 hrs before breaking out and never being seen again."
Really gives you hope. Other then that some of the stories were very inspiring. Like that one homeless man who was an alcoholic but in the end he came together with his family. His street friend was an ex-astro engineer or something like that but he lost his job and was living on the streets. He would follow the other guy around and make sure he didn't kill himself drinking. Really makes you look at homeless people in a different light. Last edited by decypher; Jun 09, 07 at 10:56 AM. |

yeah i dunno, it helps you see ppl in a different light for sure... it also shows that things like that can happen to anyone, even ppl who had a great life set up for themselves
not only does it happen to ppl who have had a bad life growing up, but ppl who have already made a life for themselves, and it took ONE defining moment in life to screw it all up... could happen to anyone at anytime... |
