none other than SIR IAN MCKELLAN!!! (aka gandalf)

he said a few words on behalf of Peter Jackson & the cast, then proceeded to take a seat and watch the film - for the first time. or so he said...

I just saw this movie last night and I only got 4 complaints about this movie:
1)I dont like the way theyve turned Gimli into a huge source of comic relief... I mean I dont mind a joke or two, but it seems everything he says in this movie is humerous. I admit some of the shit he says is pretty funny, but sometimes it just gets redundant and detracts from the atmosphere in the movie. Ie at Helms Deep when the orcs are about to attack and Gimli cant see over that little part of the wall. The first time it was funny, but then they keep milking the joke dry and I think it really detracts from the whole dark mood of the oncoming battle.

2)This ones really minor, but in the first scene with gollum it seems like everything he touches (ie the rocks he walks on) is unaffected, and when it is, its done ina very unrealistic manner, ie the rocks under his feet dont move like they should.

3)Sam's speech at the end was a little too melodramatic for me

4)Some of the ents look a little out of place and not "tree-like" enough for my taste, but it wasnt too bothered by it.

Other than that I can honestly say theres nothing else I dont like about the movie, I havent seena movie like that with a constant edge-of-your-seat pace since "The Empire Strikes Back". Best movie of 2002, and already one of my favorite movies Ive seen.

If you havent seen it already, go see it!!

Ian Mckellan has been living in van for the past 6 mos shooting x-men 2. he went back to london today.

[geek]as for gripes about the film... i don't have many, it was pretty well done - keeping an open mind towards some of the plot re-arrangement that has to take place to adapt a book into a successful film. the one scene that bugged me was when Haldir the elf dies at helms deep. of all the things they made up for the movie that weren't in the book, this seemed the most contrived and unneccesary. it's like they stuck it in for tear-jerking power, but haldir's character wasn't developed enough for anyone to really care that he dies... fuck in the book haldir doesn't go anywhere near helms deep, let alone die![/geek]
