nintendo also doesn't seem to need to do things like push graphics boundaries or make a media machine with things like disk drives which up the complexity a lot. i mean a wii's guts are just a baby step up from a gamecube which theyve had years to perfect. they have built a reliable toy game system for casual users and its sturdiness will show that, but also so will its game library.
if you compare it to sony it's a whole other ball game, as sony doesn't even make the type of console you could buy at launch anymore, to duplicate the features of your launch console you would need to buy a ps3 + usb hub + a ps2 which is completely ridiculous and far more anti-consumer.
