movie was marginal at best. brad pitt as a 'ken doll' achilles didnt go over to well. orlando bloom made a terrible role chioce in this flick, relegated to a wimpy putz. funny how he used a bow and arrow to snuff achilles a la legolas.....can we say 'type cast'
very very boring script. typical 'action sequence, drama sequnce, actionsequence, drama sequence.action sequence ect'' its a good, bloated hollywood movie. a safe way for a producer to make a buck. |

good movie i thought... some good action scenes... but some stuff that just made me laugh and go "what the fuck?!"
like at the end... paris just gives away the sword of troy to some random stranger... "oh ya... as long as its in the hands of a trojan, we're ok!" haha... yea orlando bloom played a lil bitch very well! gettin his ass kicked by the spartan king... then runnin away like a lil bitch. the only real damage he did was shooting achilles at a distance... and achilles wasn't even looking!! yahhh good job paris! ur awesome! u can shoot ppl behind their backs! woohoo! haha anyways its still a good movie... id recommend to anyone. |

i was really disapointed by this movie.
the first fight scene was the best, every thing after was mediocre. the movie turned into a glorified soap opera for 1.5 hours before finishing with a half decent ending. i wish someone paid me $$ to show my ass on film and 'pretend' fuck hot people... overall... 6.5 out of 10. also: since i last remembered, they'er greek, not scots. anyone notice the british accent on the bad king dood? ya.... |

Do you all agree that this movie is symbolic of Brad Pitt "passing the torch" as Hollywood's leading man on to Orlando Bloom? That's what all the magazines are saying. They're saying it's the first time Brad Pitt's been in a movie where he wasn't the hottest leading man, and that Orlando has taken his place. I think that's a bunch of crap.......what do you all think?

Ok as a classics grad ill give u all a quick lesson about the Iliad.
It is a war book, written about the power of the wrath of achillieus (achilles in latin). It is intended to demonstrate how ones destiny is unavoidable, obediance to the gods is important and honor, pride and glory are the most important things to warriors ABOVE ALL ELSE. in the iliad, the books centers around severals gods and godesses helping either side, as well as the heroes fighting on either side. Greeks: Agamemnon - Leader of the greek army, king of Mycenae Menelaus - Brother of Agam. King of sparta, husband of helen Achilles - greatest single fighter in all of greece, from northern greece Aias (Ajax) - second greatest fighter. From Euboea. Odysseus - From Ithica. Clever and crafty, expert bowman. Diomedes - Great Hero and king Patroclus - Cousin of Achilles, oung warrior and protege Nestor - Ancient advisor from a generation before Trojans: Priam - King of Troy Hector - Eldest son of Priam and Protector of the city paris - son of priam and most beautiful man alive aeneas - trojan ally and future founder of rome andromache - wife of hector cassandra - daughter of priam, priestess and prophetess astynax - son of hector (his name means 'lord of the city') Briseis - slave girl captured by Achilles and stolen by Agamemnon Sarpedon - mortal son of zeus and Trojan ally Gods: Zeus (neutral) Aphrodite (Trojan) Apollo (trojan) Poseidon (greek) hera (greek) Athena (greek) ares (trojan) eros (trojan) thetis (mother of achilles, greek) hephaestus (greek) i wont retell both stories, but lets just say the plot is twisted royally. menelaus, ajax, and agamemnon are killed off in the movie. In the book they dont die. briseis is not a love interest of achilles, but instead a war prize, a trophy and a symbol of honor. when agamem. steals her, he insults achilles' honor; achilles was not in love with her. the gods play a prominent rols in the book, obviously. sarpedon and diomedes are not mentioned in the movie. Diomedes is a very important character in the book. The trojan horse and the sack of troy do not occur in the iliad, but instead come from a series of mini epics written after the iliad to fill in the gaps, and from the Aeneid, an epic by the augustan poet Virgil which covers the escape of aeneas from burning Troy and his journey to Italy and onwards to the founding of rome. The golden apple thing is also a myth outside of the iliad, as is achilles being vulnerable in the foot. This is all based on lore and later myth, not on Homer. The iliad actually ends with the returning of hectors body to his father, following the funeral games for patroclus. Achilles does not die. When he does die, it is in battle at the hands of paris, many weeks later, and not during the sack of rome. for furthur reading see: Virgil's 'Aeneid', Sophocles 'II' (Four Tragedies), Apollodorus's 'The Library of Greek Mythology', Homer's 'Odyssey', Euripedes 'V' (Three Tragedies), Aeschylus 'I' Oresteia, Euripedes 'III' (Four Tragedies) and of course, Homer's The Iliad |
