Looking for some new authors...

I've been looking around the last little while for something new to read. Something a little out there, fiction preferably, that doesn't always have the ' problem, character developement, climax, happy ending' routine.

suggestions?

Harlan Ellison and H.P. Lovecraft. Short stories for the most part, and Lovecraft can be hard to read at times, but all good.

My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.
— Ayn Rand, Appendix to Atlas Shrugged

Go pick up Atlas Shrugged, Anthem and The Fountainhead. Read Anthem first (a quick read) and then spend the rest of your summer becoming reaaallly familiar with objectivism (like philisophical selfishness) ]

If you're more into non fiction try The Virtue of Selfishness and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal.

Orrr if you hate objectivism and want to read a really sad, but beautiful story about Communist Russia, try We The Living.
