So what happened at the end of this movie - I watched it on Showcase but I got a phone call and lost track - was time travel involved and did Donnie Darko really get killed at the end?

Frank the bunny stopped Donnie from dying when he should have died by bringing him out of the house and saving him from the falling jet engine, therefore everything that happens to Donnie after that is a reality that shouldn't have taken place. and he can feel it too, so can everyone else, that's why they are all drawn to him (his teachers...remember that part when Drew Barrymore just says "donnie darko..." and also Jena Malone's character)

so all that stuff that happens in the alternate reality isn't supposed to happen, then he figures out all that stuff about time travel out and realizes that in fixing the alternate reality time travel has to be involved.

i suppose a lot of isn't really him controlling time travel, but more fate just trying to fix itself, by opening that portal over his house and having the jet engine from his mom's plane fall back in time and kill him, therefore resetting what is supposed to happen.

OK, thanks. I hate it when they make movies like that. It's like they make almost the whole movie about a lot of wierd things going on and then at the end they show it was just a dream! And so it's the end of the movie and they've weaseled out of the job of giving the viewer a satisfying explanation of what was going on.
