I finally watched an episode of this show...
Though only having watched one episode, I don't think I'll be watching this show very often. The only thing unique about it is that it's an entire non-pornographic drama revolving around the lives of lesbian women and relationships.I wasn't too impressed, mostly because the review that I read said that it was like another Sex and the City but based on lesbian women. I think I expected a little too much, but I can see where they drew the comparisons from: a group of diverse women talking about the ups and downs of relationships... I don't know about the acting but I think it was the script that sort of bothered me. The jokes and the dialogue had such an unnatural flow to it. I'm no professional critic but I have trouble watching drama's with scripts that you can't to some degree immerse yourself in. |

what makes it totally UNLIKE sex and the city is that the characters focus on day to day stuff like raising families, careers, and other stuff like that. i don't think sexuality is a focal point of this drama at all. of course the characters have sex, it's a basic human need, especially for people between the ages of 20-40. and they delve into relationships because relationships are very difficult to manage for people, let alone people who aren't straight to begin with. 1. the woman from Flashdance is going through a pre midlife crisis it seems. she's worried about being able to support her partner and children. on top of that, they're growing apart emotionally and physically--which happened in a lot of long term relationships then there's the aformentioned character's partner, who has given up her own career in order to attempt to start a family, only to find out that things might not go according to plan and that her relationship isn't as solid as she once thought. 2. the tennis player is half in, and half out of the closet (in season one, at least) because she's a celebrity and comes from a family of wealthy, white, right-wingers. this happens in real life. it might be 2005, but a lot of people are not ready to admit to being gay. 3. the bisexual writer who kind of does her thing, and refuses to label herself. there's one of those in every group, i think.. 4. then there's the older sexual predator (i don't think they featured her on the first episode of season two if that's the one you watched), who goes for the fresh meat without giving two shits about who they hurt. they each have very real issues going on. to me, the only thing that makes this show sex and the cityesque is the fact that the women are all friends. give it a chance, yoko. start from the very first episode. it's one of the most intelligent drama's out there. i'd honestly make the same comment if all the characters were straight. the characters transcend sexuality on this show. |

good post diva, I actually didnt like the 1st episode in season 2 myself, but after watching the 2nd episode i feel much better. Starting from season 1 episode 1 and watching all the episodes would make much more sense. It's a great show, not too far from reality like Sex and the city.
diva u deserve my karma :) |

Agh, I forget the name of the lady (she's the dark haired member of the couple trying to have a baby) but my friend from highschool plays her assistant on the show!
it was all filmed in Vancouver, so I bet it cures your homesickness jen :) |

Sorry, esi i didn't read you entire list but I got the gist of your post.
I would LIKE to give the show a chance but I honestly thought that the episode that I watched was SO cheesy. I don't know whether it was the script or the acting but it was so unnatural and the humour was so unfunny. They were talking about how this one girl had no gaydar, and they made a hugeass deal about it and all four of the women decided that it was such a big deal that they would have to inform two of their other friends who were right in the middle of trying to make a baby with some dude' sperm (he had a high sperm count). I dunno ladies, maybe my disappointment is rooted in the fact that I was expecting it to be something else and it was completely not what I thought it would be. P.s., sex and the city does often talk about careers, miranda had a child and Charlotte was very set on having a family and being the perfect housewife type. I have yet to be convinced. Please tell me that the episode that I watched was just a really really bad one. Last edited by yoko*; Mar 04, 05 at 10:18 PM. |
