The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
First off, I want to say that I've never read the book, and I went to see this knowing only the basic storyline.
I can see how this movie won't be liked by everyone. For someone who's never read the books, I found it pretty hard to follow sometimes. Some things just went flying through my head. I was laughing most of the time though. It was definitely the weird, random humour that I really like. The plot/story is straightforward, but it's the details that's hard to wrap your brain around. The acting was great. I really liked Sam Rockwell as the president of the galaxy. He definitely had the most memorable role. Most of the laughs came from him, from what I can remember. Bleh I wanna make this short. The one big drawback is there's a LOT in this movie. It's like they were trying to pack all this information in, and in most cases, they succeed. But, having no knowledge about it really, it can be overwhelming. It's definitely a unique film. If you're into weird stuff, this is definitely worth the $10. Ooh and I watched it at Paramount, which is HUGE. Bigger than Tinseltown. I'm not sure if it's the same or bigger than Strawberry Hill, but it's massive. Everything's new and nice, and it just has that classy downtown feel to it. Plus, there were no teeny-boppers like those you'd see at Metrotown. |

I fully enjoyed it from start to finish. I, myself, have read the books but I def. don't think it's a necessity to understand the flick.
Allan Rickman was awesome as Marvin, he had me laughing the whole time. I can see now that this movie is going to have a major cult following to it.... I know that I'll own it once it's released on DVD. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up! |

Movie was good.. some parts were funnier than they were in the book (translated better in live form) and some parts were funnier in the book (funnier on paper) - allround pleasureable experience though. |

I thought it wasn't nearly as good as the original mini-series. I just felt that they cut too much out. Stand out performance for me would have to be John Malkovic and Allan Rickman as the voice of Marvin. I gotta say, though, that I loved the cg in this movie it was for the most part very well done. Only thing I missed was the narration by the guide book. There was alot more in the books and the miniseries and I always got a kick out of the funny little anecdotes which would've lent themselves pretty well to the movie version. Still, some good laughs, throughout and sushi afterwards made for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

Finally got around to seeing it tonight.. very very fun times. The effects were out of this world (ha ha).. I see that Jim Henson's studio was responsible for the creating the creatues... that figures, as they were brilliant. I'd like to know who did the grafix in the Guide segments, because those are excellent also.
Each lead actor brought their own distinct quirky charm to the film, and it really paid off. I had little trouble believing Mos Def was from another planet. 4/5 Grapes! |

saw it last night and really liked it. though i still prefer the books, i did like the movie.
though i wasn't quite a fan of how they did zaphod, but that's okay. i'm just glad he actually had two heads, since in a bunch of the previews it appeared he didn't, and that just wouldn't be right. |

It was a verbal gag for a radio show, not meant to be much of a visual thing, really. I'm glad they don't have him running around with a second head through the whole movie. |
