I hear ya on the wanting to jump in right away. I found the thing that got to me in the GT series was trying to fine tune your car to exactly how you wanted it. There were only two cars in GT2 (better than 3 IMO) that I could tune to the racing style that I prefered.
Now I'm playing that new one for the XBox - Forza Racing.
This game is unbeleivable. Graphics are the best I have seen and unlike GT, when you cut the grass you actually slow down. I could do with a more intuitive tweaking interface that actually showed sum visual differences. I mean I can't tell if I have dropped the suspension on my car during gameplay b/c it seems the thing is always at the same height. When I drop a car's suspension I should see the sideskirts scraping the pavement if I pull a nice carve.
GT5 will be a rental, but only if I can cary on my Garage from the previous games, complete with the settings. I don't have time to retune my RX7 LM and my TVR Cerbera LM. I lubbed those cars.
