not to perpetuate the idea that i am a huge hater, but i really disliked this movie.
while thought provoking in a sense, i found the rotoscoping annoying after a while, and it wasn't interesting enough to contain my attention. i agree there were good philisophical points but id rather it was a book i could put down when it started to bore me. |

i'd half to agree half with rawb and half with ebbo on this one.
i also wish it was a book i could put down at the boring parts, but visually the movie is stunning and the good thing about it is that it changes up so often. so even if one of the philosophical arguments is boring to you, you know that it's going to change to something else in just a few minutes anyway. great music, too. |

as far as i know, they filmed it like a regular movie and had different artists paint over the frame with some sort of digital painting program. that's why the styles change with the scenes...different artists.
they had something on the DVD of how they did it. |

The point at the end is really to let go and let things take their course. What will the course be? Well, we can talk about it for two hours but it still won't matter, we still won't know. What happens happens. This movie poses questions and doesn't really answer them, because the questions that are posed are either unanswerable, or any answer will simultaneously be right and wrong.... Does he die? Yes. Because then the dream world no longer exists, he is back in reality, and that level of perception is gone. It could be he's dying, but we really can't be sure. Isn't everybody dying? It's a movie about perception. And it draws a lot from existentialism, philosophy and all kinds of different ideas. I think this pisses off a lot of phil people because it makes it seem like it's trying to be a phil dissertation. Which it isn't. It's really a journey. Ultimately I like existential stuff like this though. Anybody ever seen Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead? Ever read Waiting For Godot? I love this stuff. It's directionless hippie-wanking but it sure is fun. |

i looooooove the movie, have seen it like 6 or 7 times and still dont really fully know what its about. probably the artist in me, i get all caught up in the visual stimulation and i just watch the movie rather then listen to it. everytime i see it i tell myself that this time im going to listen - but it never happens.

It's kinda odd that a post about this movie comes up now, I saw this movie about 2 weeks ago and I was thinking about making a post about it, but I figured it being an older movie, no one would care.
That being said. I thought this movie was amazing. Definately one of my favorite movies. I do agree though that it's very slow paced. It's always great to have things change your perspective on life, or even broaden it. |
