I thought it was ok but I saw primer and the machinist pratically one after the other. I thought the story wasn't as great as christian bales acting. Mad respect for someone who can drop 60 or so pounds for an acting role. I mean, that could have some permanent damage to his body. I heard he was stuck having just to drink suppliment shakes and an apple a day.
on a side note, you guys should watch primer if you haven't already, another really cool indie flick |

i'd like to know a little about the movie, definatly interested now. maybe next time i'm stuck for a movie to rent hopefully this'll pop into my mind. i like movies that make ya think and be asking questions at the end of the movie, something similar to Basic but not that confusing. i'm in love with Requiem For A Dream, Donny Darko, The Unsaid, The Royal Tenneabaums <-- that one cause it was so random. but ya a lil info on the movie would be great

I heard about this film awhile ago from a friend who was a crazy fan of Christian Bale, then was fortunate to catch it at the Vancouver screening at VFF.
Usually I'm not much for recursive storylines, but the haunting direction of movie and Bale's crazy transformation was enough to make the movie... The dark and gritty ambiance of the set and the movie really jived with the feeling like sinking into someone's insanity. atmospheric filth, likened to texas chainsaw massacre. what i can't believe is how Bale gained back all that muscle for Batman begins in such a short time. dood is really willing to go through shit for his craft. Totally beats out Charlize for most extreme makeover for a starring role :P Full-scale emancipation definitely beats out gettin a little tubby with some face prosthetics :P after american psycho, i had some mad respect for the roles bale has worked on. |

Batman was pretty good. But the Machinist was top notch psycho-drama in my books. You don't realize just how much craft and foreshadowing was put into it until you've seen the ending, and then go back and watch it again.
Batman: 7/10 Machinist: 8.5/10 "Out of 10" rankings: 10/10 |

just finished watching this movie. totally awesome.
reminded me of hitchcock, actually. this director had me in the palm of his hand right from the very beginning...but build-ups of suspense with pay-off that was just too perfect. similar to memento in ways. memento was a more clever movie, but the machinist had some pretty great things going on. i will most likely be adding this to my DVD collection. |
