^ you shouldn't have to get CS for anything - it's always been a free mod - I'm sure EA will change that fast.
But seriously, odds are that EA will buy Valve just to get the Half-Life name, cause all the real talent to leave and ruin yet another great franchise with their shoddy, half-assed game-making and ride on the name that they bought. |

^ they didn't make Burnout - they bought the company that did (Criterion).
EA's own games are crap/retreads wrapped up in expensive and slick packaging. They get all their marquee titles by buying successful properties and milking them to death after losing all the good talent that helped make those franchises successful. They have some good games, but rarely do those come form their own internal teams. And don't get me started on their sports games... |

Looks more like EA wanting to cash-in on the M-rated GTA-style game that's doing so well nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I know i'm being a little harsh as EA has made some good games in the past but the biggest issue i have with EA is that they're generally totally devoid of original ideas (SSX was cool and original - at least the first one was) and either buy their content from other companies, shamelessly rip-off games, or simply retread the same idea/design that was original years ago but is simply the same shit year after year. And honestly, it's not that the employees lack the talent (worked there for 4 years, know a lot of peeps that are still there) it's just that the suits never give them the time to make a *great* game settling on their name-brand value to move units. Once in a while they'll have a great game from their internal studios but more often than not it's a lot of average - good games that just have tons of expensive production values thrown on top to mask the fact that it's just a decent game... |
