Over There

So I'm watching History Channel right now... watching the German Sixth Army get raped at Stalingrad. This Commercial comes on and it looks like an interesting Series. "Over There"... sounds like it could be interesting, kind of like a modern Band of Brothers. Anyone else going to check this out? Tuesdays at 9pm apparently.

I want to check it out for sure. A co-worker of mine told me that it was actually pretty brutal! Like full on limb removal and stuff.

i find the idea that this television show exists kinda sick. correct me if i'm wrong, but it's based about the war in iraq, right? i mean, that war is going on as we speak...real people are dying and fighting and they're turning it into a television show? i have nothing wrong with war movies/tv shows...i really like a lot of them. but it seems really disrespectful to the people fighting the actual war in iraq to make a television series that profits off the idea of that war (no matter how realistic it is).

Well, movies that come out nowadays about Vietnam still "profit" from that war.

^ Good point Jake.

I think what they are trying to do is raise the awareness of what it's actually like in a Combat Zone though. So if they make a few bucks and manage to open a realization at the American Public at the same time that's fine with me. I think that if it helps more realize the false pretenses of the War in Iraq is based on and make sure Bush doesn't get in again it's worth it.

hence why i emphasized that i didn't like the fact that they are profiting off a war that is going on RIGHT NOW. making movies about vietnam and stuff, that's cool with me...but making movies about tragedies that are going on right now that are for entertainment (not documentary, news story, etc...) seems wrong to me.

yeah, i do understand that it's for awareness and everything. i guess it's the whole creation of characters and fictionalization that bothers me. if it was a documentary show it would be better. people should be sympathizing with the REAL people in this war and not the FAKE characters on this show.

For me the two are in the same boat, new and old.

The way I see it is that History is happening right now in Iraq, so now is a better time than ever.

i guess that's the thing that bothers me. people should be concerned about the real war in iraq and the fighters over there in real life than with a television version of the war on iraq with fictional fighters.

People's concerns move with the news. Can't feel guilty about watching T.V.

remember though, this is his second term as president, so no matter what he does now, there's no way he's getting in again on the next election. unless he has a clone baby or something..
