it sounds like your laser is probably fucked... when you have dvds your laser has to be a stronger which is why you cant read dvds in cd drives. so therefor it will be able to read some cds (maybe) but not others... you can't replace a laser (well, its a bitch), and so you might as well buy a new one. at least, thats what it sounds like without having seen it

mine did the same thing.
i have an original ps2, not the slim one. got it modded about 4 months after. work perfectly for about a year then my lens died. just need to get my lens replaced, my buddy can do it for a case of beer. just need to find a used ps2 for sale, steal the lens, replace, works. the lens on the ps2's are cheap and die if you leave it on all the time. |

2 rules of thumb when using a slim version of the ps2.
#1 have a fan blowing towards the ps2 at all times. this ps2 looks sweet cause its so small but heats up like a mofo and can cause to ur system getting owned #2 this also applies for the fat version of the ps2 but do not place the ps2 on carpet when playing. the static really fucks up the ps2. atleast place a mgazine or something under it. |

my buddy actually had this problem with his gamecube
the issue was that the default factory setting for the laser had slightly changed when the gamecube got bumped. the laser got weaker and so the discs couldnt be read properly. the thing that controls the strength of the laser is just this tiny screw that you either tighten or loosen. do a little search on google and see what you can find. i have a feeling this is probably your problem though |
