King Kong

It had its moments but the character developement was crap
the long, boring parts of kong looking into the girls eyes was crap
the acting was lame
Critics are on crack

The CG, audio were all done extremely well with minor misses.
The only reason to go see this movie is for the fight scenes between animals.

Other than that, we were attempted to walk out when they hit NY.

Yeah I enjoyed seeing Kong rip dinosaurs in half.... that was pretty cool.

Basically, this moving has something for everyone. Jurassic Park w/ guns for guys, and a sappy love story between a giant mongoloid ape and a hottie blond who is struggling with her acting profession during the great depression, for girls

All in all, definately worth the 12 bucks or whatever it is. Blazing a bean before hand make the 3 hours seem like 2, and the rest is gravy.

Its a full 70 minutes before Kong shows up. I think it took to long to build the movie up to a proper climax. Still, a great film, all things considered. WETA did a great job on the CG in this movie and the shots of 1930s era New York were pretty surreal to watch on the big screen. The vintage Coca Cola and Woolworths Co ads along w/ the old school adverts in Time Square gave the movie those extra touches that made you believe they filmed this movie on location in 1930s New York. It was pretty cool to watch.

Sad when Kong finally bit the dust though, although, I'll agree, that last bit was pretty drawn out. Also people in the theatre laughed at the last line when Jack Black points out "t'was beauty that killed the beast". People just don't get cinema these days. It was actually a well thought out line that told of Kong's desire simply to have a friend and enjoy the beauty of the sunrise. He wasn't looking for trouble, he was just a big 30ft tall misunderstood ape. Really quite a moving moment in the film but most people in the theatre were just like what the hell, this is crap. Sad really.

One cool bit of trivia is that when the orchestra is playing at Kong's New York debut the music they are playing for his reveal is actually the King Kong theme from the original 1950s King Kong movie. I thought that was kind of funny.
My favorite part in the movie would have to be the brontosaurus stampede where the allosaurs showed up and got crushed under foot. Also King Kong vs three t-rexes??? That was just f'ing cool to watch. Maybe Peter Jackson won't get an oscar, but it was definitely an awesome movie. Has to be seen on the big screen.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but you all have to agree that it's one of the best marketed movies EVER. -- Look at the hype around the damn thing!

Lots and lots of action!!! I enjoyed the entire movie except for the scene at the end with the whole ice skating thing on the pond. That was a lil bit much but other then that it was totally 100% worth seeing.

And the award for best fight goes to King Kong and T-Rex *lol* :)

Oh PS - This movie is 3.5 hrs long!

I just saw it.

Yeah it got really tired, the eye contact thing.

A lot of the movie wasn't very believable.. I guess we're supposed to forget about these kind of things in action movies but that explanation has never done it for me.

I enjoyed it somewhat, a lot of the buildup and then subsequent action scenes were really good.

6.5/10

Did you guys know that the original King Kong was the first movie to have SFX and created what is now known as foley?

Well on another note, the 40 minutes of eye contact really threw me off, I have seen all the previous King Kong's and the story was no different. Jackson's attempt at making the story more that it was didn't work and was I the only one that wondered by Colin Hanks is so damn fat now? that rich bastard, thought he died after the log scene but he survived thanks to movie magic.
Final review? wished I watched Aon Flux instead. At least in that movie Charlize Theron is freaking hot in tight matrix outfits.

you guys are all huge fucking geeks. it was a great action flick & a great homage to the original. i don't give a fuck how many toes a t-rex has, those dino fight scenes made Jurassic Park look stupid (actually it already looked stupid). They had to spend some time developing the connection between Kong & Anne or the ending would'nt have made sense.

^i agree, i thought it was a great movie. it still had the feel of the older film, while going more in depth into certain elements that were never fleshed out in the original.

of course a lot of it wasn't very believable. it's a huge gorrilla on an island full of dinosaurs. remember that this is a remake of a movie made in 1933 and Peter Jackson wanted to stay as true to the original one as possible (which he did a fantastic job of). there are going to be elements that today's audience is going to have a hard time buying, but this is a good old fashioned action movie from a long time ago and you have to go into it with that mindset.

i really enjoyed it. yes, it's long, and yes i think there are parts which could have been sped up or cut, but most of it worked really well.

i actually felt a real sadness when king kong dies at the end and when he was captured. i think THAT is a major feat of the filmmaker if he can make the audience sympathetic for a giant CGI gorrilla.

edit:

i think peter jackson did an incredible job managing the fight scenes in the movie. there are so many of them and they last so long and the majority of them are done in CGI, but yet i never got lost in what was going on or thought it looked fake. i can't imagine how hard it would be to direct a fight scene between CGI dinosaurs a giant CGI gorrilla that lasts for like 20 minutes. how would you even begin to direct something like that? props to jackson for making it all work so smoothly.

^^i was just referring to k projects post... i really thought the dinos were better in KK. Maybe not as accurate, but i could give a fuck in a film such as this. So t rex has 2 toes, gorillas aren't 25 feet tall either - it's fiction. I thought the fight scene with kong & the 3 dinos kicked ass on anything in JP action-wise, and the giant pig-pile of borontosaurus' was pretty well done too i thought, with all the jiggling blubber.

Actually, that wasn't one of the parts I hard a hard time believing! More things like "Umm yeah, they all fell 100 feet but they're pretty much fine" or "oh right, he just shot 20 bugs off that guy but didn't so much as wing him" or "sure, that guy came to rescue them and found them just in the nick of time" etc etc etc

Character motivations were only believable in fits and starts, as well... things like "would he REEEALLY agree to stick around and try and capture the ape, or would he just go 'um, you're fucking nuts, we're leaving bye'"

^i thought they set that one up rather well, by making the captain a wildlife trapper, and then Carl goads him by saying 'i thought you were the best'... so he couldn't turn down the challenge

agreed on the bug shooting & long falls though, that was a bit of a stretch. also the way Kong was whipping Anne around half the time she'd surely have broken her neck. but wtf, it's King Kong, nobody said it wouldn't be far-fetched.
