Metal: A Headbanger's Journey
went & checked this last night @ Tinseltown... if you haven't heard, it's a documentary about the culture surrounding heavy metal music. Excellent film. The guys who made (Sam Dunn & Scott McFadyen) it are old friends of mine from Victoria who've been living in TO for the past several years. They do a great job, covering the history of the genre & really breaking it down & looking at all the subgenres. Some killer footage of great metal bands of the past, interviews with lots of the major players past & present, and they even delve into the mysterious Norwegian black metal scene. I was never a big metal head, but this film was very enjoyable none the less. Highly reccommended to anyone.

it's amazing the justification I hear from this sense-of-entitlement generation of file-sharing - especially when it comes to the independent artists (still don't give a fuck about major label pop-hits).
"well, i'll pay to go to their show so they get money off me" "their music should be an adverstisement for me to see them play so i feel like i don't need to pay for the tunes" The worst are the digital djs w/ cd decks or final scratch who play stolen music out at their gigs. I have a friend who got final scratch but downloads most of his tunes - told him he'll *never* get a gig out of me until he pays for his tunes... |
