I was so confused. I went on a downloading/burning binge and I saw the name Brokeback Mountain and it sounded familiar but I had no idea what it was about. When I heard "Brokeback Mountain" I thought "Hmmm that sounds like a roller coaster, this movie must some action packed movie with explosions and shit". Turns out it's a movie about gay cowboys eating pudding. It wasn't a bad movie, it was actually pretty good, just not what I expected.

Brokeback Mountain has a lot of hype and it's groundbreaking in the sense that it's a Hollywood gay love story. But Crash has a good chance of taking the gold, too.
Crash has a great ensemble cast (and they won that award in the SAGs), I think Crash's story is more creative and cleverly intertwined, unlike Brokeback which is fairly simple. But Brokeback Mountain has that simple, yet greatly effective dramatic style that has worked for many Oscar winners. Yeah.. tough choice. I love both movies. I'd love to see both win. The question is: if Brokeback wins, will this open the floodgates for crappy hollywood-ized gay romantic comedies? *barf* |

It was extremely contrived and simplistic. It pinned racism on current cultural stereo-types, at the same time perpetuating them (the rich white bitch, the poor working class mexican, the 'white' black guy). Rasicm is a direct result of the systematic oppression of minorties that has occured in the past couple hundred years of our history, and it will take another couple hundred years to erase it. Not only that, it ignored the socio-economical conditions (that each and every one of us contribute to, myself included) of our communities that bred racism everyday. |
