X-Men 3: The Last Stand
This series is hands-down, my favourite comic book-to-movie adaptation. Of course, I was exceedingly worried when I found out that Bryan Singer dropped out from the director's chair (choosing to do Superman Returns), and was replaced by Brett "Rush Hour" Ratner. So, was it a disappointment? Well, I'm sorry to say there is no easy answer to that. Yes and no.
This is how some people are looking at this movie: All of the great atmosphere, character and story development that made the first two movies what they were have been replaced by an action-packed mindless blockbuster film. Bryan Singer delivered the meaty, thought-provoking prequels that drew many parallels with the real world. This way, he made the mutant powers limited, favouring realism over fantasy. While some argued that comic book movies shouldn't be realistic, this formula worked amazingly and I think it's what made the first two prequels work so well. Now comes Brett Ratner, shortening the length of the movie (from X2's 135 mins to X3's 103 mins), yet still having a comprehensive plot and a legion of mutants. This means that certain parts of the story feel rushed, and some characters are so shallow. Yes, coming from the Singer film mindset, X3 would be disappointing. However, I knew well in advance that Ratner would be replacing him. Plus, the geeky X-Men comic book reader inside me was crying out to see more powers used in the movies. I pretty much knew what to expect with this movie. Yes, the movie suffers stylistically and seems more like a blockbuster than the last two, but this one is not mindless. There's still a meaty story here. And lots of memorable scenes (Nightcrawler infiltrating the White House is still my fave though). So, is this worth seeing at the theatres? Hell yes! Just try to loosen up and don't cry too much because it's not the same as the first two. It's still X-men, don't worry about that :p |

Did you guys see me? I did.
Anyway, I thought is was by far the worst movie in the trilogy. It's in good company, though. Jurassic Park 3 is one of the worst films of all time. Ratner was a total dickweed on set and that translates into the rushed hour film. They cut out so much shit, most sadly all of Beast's fighting scenes. You just get to see him to one little kick. Storm finally kicked some ass and Juggernaut was cool (despite the "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" line). The sad bits were pretty wrenching too. Even so, this was fairly dissappointing for me. |

He made the rocks that were flying around, and lots of other stuff. But doesn't know how they made them fly. Haven't seen it myself yet. |

yeah, i was getting pretty pissed at the whole thing with them maiming or killing off all the cool people... the two last scenes with xavier doing his reincarnation trick and eric getting his powers back made me feel a bit better about it. only question now is will he get it completely back in the next movie, and will mystique have the same luck.

Saw it, liked it.
Was surprised when Xavier got whacked so early! I didn't stay through the credits, but i guess he revived or something. Glad Cyclops died so early (I always hated him) And does anyone else think that wingboy (archangel) looked like he should be covered with sparkles and flying down davie street? Edit: and where the Hell is gambit and Bishop dammit |
