What events have you played at?

DJ wise in Vancouver:
I've played for Royal Platoon, The Relick, Fixed, New Forms Festival, FWD Series, Lotus Long Weekend, and pretty much all Lighta! shows. A slew of underground parties, stuff never posted to the net.

I've performed (LivePA) with Tanya Tagaq all across Canada and Europe and the U.S. (when they let me in).

DJ'd in all major cities across Canada as well (that's including Whitehorse bweeee)

What originally hooked you into the DJing scene?

ragga jungle sets played by MIRO in halifax in '95 and '96. and i actually never set out to be a DJ. i started buying vinyl to get music i couldn't get on CD. i was an producer & musician before falling into DJ'ing.

uh, nothing crazy.. probably the dubplates of my own sh*t.

What is your most treasured record and why?

"the pianist" dancehall 7" maybe. i dunno, maybe some old halifax hip hop test press's which i'm getting around to selling. it used to be "dispatch #2" by hidden agenda. but i don't really "treasure" my records. i treasure authentic communication, laughing, love and light, truth and justice.

Have you got any funny/horrific DJing stories?

yes. yes i do. ..uh, i lost my pants in calgary once (long story). i actually rocked a party with one turntable before (promoter!?). played in below zero situations outdoors in the woods, slipping around on the ice, played in the summer heat of melting records. i dunno, probably the most horrific situation was booking rusko and having the a major needle skipping situation for all his set (never again. since then, i've built must custom skip-proof scaffolding set-up)

What do you like the most about DJing?

doing it right. playing the right music for the right moment. serving up ish people want to hear but usually don't. pushing the limits and taking risks that other dj's won't.

What does your DJ name signify?

it started as an anti-dj name. red was the colour i least connected with and i arbitrarily picked it without thinking too much about it. times have changed, and now red makes sense in more ways than one.

Who are your influences /or shoutouts?

shouts out to those pushing new sounds and old sounds with substance.
i do this for the music and the people. respect to others doing the same.
influences - hyperdub, science, roots (old & new), the sea & space, local vancouver talent.
