My first mix! "Off Balance" . . . . bass-heavy breakbeats and all that jazz.
Praise, criticize, shrug it off.. doesn't matter to me as long as you tell me why so I can work on it. I mixed this on the fly in Ableton Live. I've only been using the program seriously for about a week so I haven't learned to throw in anything crazy yet. Hopefully you'll enjoy it for what it is.
http://www.yousendit.com/download/SGwsfAucoxN5TA%3D%3D Tracklist: 01 :: Bassnectar -- Arrival [Bassnectar Remix?] 02 :: Tipper -- Tweak Sauce 03 :: StickyBuds -- Get Up N Dance 04 :: K'naan -- Soobox 05 :: Bassnectar -- Blow 06 :: Leftfield & Roots Manuva -- Dusted [Tipper Remix] 07 :: Bassnectar -- Pleasure the Bass Nympho 08 :: Tipper Tones -- Bowel Movement [27:41] Much thanks to StickyBuds for giving me permission to use his track. Thanks guys.. I rinsed out a house mix the other day but it didn't turn out so well.. so I worked on this one all night over and over again from about 2am to Noon.. hopefully it shows! Looking forward to feedback of any kind and honesty is the key to my improvement!
StickyIcky: I love that track. I've been citing it as my favourite breaks track for almost two years now, I think? Chill vibe but for some reason it pumps me up big time. Hope I did it justice! Jess: I actually thought of you when I threw that in there. Last edited by tiedye; Jan 19, 07 at 06:08 PM. |

Yo Chadwick, I listened to the mix a ccouple times. It's not bad. I think that when you advance your knowledge in Ableton you will see how you can grow in your mixing style.
The thing I noticed was that a few of the mixes were pretty different in the volume of the track. I think the last mix expecially. Sorry it's been a few days since i listened to them. I liked how you kept the Tipper Glitch going into my track, and how you laced the K'naan vocals over the end. That is what it's all about. As you learn more you will understand how to do it cleanly with eq work and so on. Ableton has sooooo many features, I dont even know, but I have friends who do crazy crazy shit. Things like looping that first section of the Knaan track to play it over more of the mixout without doing a solid chop over drop, or eq'ing the bass out of the tipper track that came before my track. It's all fine tuning and it's all experience and doing it over and over, and experimenting that brings you up. That being said, I liked the mix, all the tracks were wicked, especially the first bassnectar track. I've seen lorin probably about 20 times and don't recall hearing that. Lots of cool stuff, and you definitly got good taste. Keep it up, keep doing what you love, playing the tracks that you love, and it will all come with hard work, time and practice, just like anything. I'm still totally stoked that you liked "Get up N Dance" enough to mix it with those other monster tracks. I listen to it and hear all the things that I can do better. But you really inspired me to write some more stuff. I have been really lazy lately and just focusing on playing shows. So thank you. Keep it up man, and that's my fo real review. All the best Chad. |

Hey! Two of my biggest BC influences coming back with some positive feedback. It means a lot to know people from my corner of the world dug it and still had some advice for me. I'm only really getting into this so I can hear music I want to hear.. maybe rock a couple house parties around this neck of the woods with music they'd never be exposed to.
Glad you dig the track selection too. I had a hard time finding a style of music outside of drum n bass that really captured the vibe I wanted to portray. Expect some interesting shit in the near future! Much respect... much! |
