Wanting a change in the electronic music scene, A young Lenny DiDesiderio used his recording engineering qualifications and sought out the hardest electronic music tracks available, and put together a label known as Industrial Strength Recordings (ISR). With backing by Watts Distribution, there was quick & visible results. Lenny Dee unleashed ISR’s first 12 inch on an unsuspecting world back in 1991 in the form of the now classic PCP’s Crews ‘Mescalinium United’.
As the label grew, the definitive ISR sound was created, distinguishing the New York sound from it’s European style hardcore and gabber that was coming through.
The first three to five years was a serious release schedule and in the space of a few years Industrial Strength became the most respected Hardcore label in America with a steady stream of licensed material turning up on Holland's Thunderdome CD's.
As the first Hardcore label in the world and one of the first electronic labels in the USA, ISR has featured established artists such as Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, The Mover, Promo, Casper Pound, DJ Paul and DOA, among other ground breaking music that has pioneered the label for over a 17 years. ISR also continues to develop young unestablished producers from all from all around the globe and has introduced (now very successful) artists such as Oliver Chelser (‘The Horrorist”), Nasenbluten, Manu le Malin, Unexist and John Selway to name a few. If you listened to harder techno in the 90s, chances are it was on the Industrial Strength label, or its other sublabels..
The label had its high point in the 90s when it managed to partner up with the Earache label with the seminal "Industrial Fucking Strength" mixes yet continues to release releases to this day. The first 50 releases of this label however still remains to be sought out by collectors around the world, often fetching 3 digit amounts.
