So I listened to two of them: Searching and Get Up On It
Searching At home: Nice listening tunes. Something I'd play in the background if reading or doing a project of some sort. At club/rave: Quite weak, really. No real energy. I'd probably wander off in search of something with more of a vibe. In general: Adequate selection and flow. Only a couple of tracks stood out in my mind: the U2 song and one near the end (without the lyrics). Nothing too in inspiring about it, though. Get Up On It At home: Kept my attention for the most part. Never faded into a Muzak mode while listening to it. The various styles in this mix piqued my interest enough to hear where it might go next. At club/rave: Despite a few annoyances (one early build would have pissed me off to no end with its longitivity), I'd definitely get a good groove going to this. There's a few points where I may take off in search of something else due to some energy being lost compared to previous tracks, but something later would have easily brought me back (that last track stands out). In general: An interesting mix. Definitely sounds like an attempt to mix up some conventional break styles with a little variety. Last edited by Sykonee; Mar 16, 04 at 06:03 PM. |

Well, I know how hard it can be for aspiring DJs and musicians to get noticed anymore. Lord knows I've got plenty of friends and associates in similar situations (referring to your other thread).
If a review of someone's material is what gives them incentive to keep going, I'll give it an honest go-around. Even an objective, negative review can inspire a DJ to strive for better if they take such critisms to heart. |
