fukn bangin trance
this is my website www.dj-josh.biz and i would love to know why the promoters in this city continue to use only the same dj's when other people deserve chances. www.dj-josh.biz check it out

I completely agree, it's shocking that all the major production companies in vancouver operate that way. I don't want to mention names, but it's shameless when you bring in one headliner for every party, and then fill it with your 5 local friends who dj every party.

well, for those who want to play, you have to go to parties, pass otu demos, and talk to promoters and other djs. If you just post up a weblink, that doesnt really cut it. If you get really pissed off about not playing out, throw your own parties.

btw, that site had almost zero content. It also used flash i think, which is a bad idea. Webpeople hate flash. Check out my site. it has alot wrong with it, but it also has alot right, so maybe you'll get some ideas on improving your own site.

i thought the site was rather bare too. but since it still seems to be in progress... flash... soime people hate it. some people like it. i'm indifferent to it. The demo was pretty good tho.. where about do you live?
And I totally agree with Aqva... burn a bunch of CD's and hand em out to promoters and stuff... posting a link is nice but so many people are doing it now you need something that will make you stand out compared to all the other new faces... Promoters use the same faces because if you throw a party with a bunch of new faces.. people are gonna be less likely to go. I've only thrown one party so far, but I'm going to try to include at least one new face at each of my parties. They also tend to use friends as personal favors. |

well first off doug, any major DJ uses flash in their webpage. Along with all major producers, production companies, or anything else that requires good promotions. Find me a single top 10 dj that doesn't use flash right now. And if you're not going to use flash, thats fine, it makes it more accessible , however your webpage is even more bare then the one you're criticizing. It's got a blue bar at the top for a menu? www.cooltext.com will give you some snazzier buttons to start with, and I'd make a straight out menu rather then a graphic clip. And if you can, upgrade to flash ;) |

Now I have to do that all over again. Except this time I don't know anybody. And the parties that have the same genre I play (HardHouse/NRG) are really expensive, and have too many people... I end up meeting e-tards who are just there to get high rather then other DJs & Promoters who share the same interests as me. The origional poster is right... this really is an impossible scene to merge into. Last edited by Séguin; May 15, 04 at 12:49 AM. Reason: Spelling |

i hear u man van city is tough city if u play hard music, hopefully it wil change and allow variety, but as long as there has been a scene in vancouver it has always been this way when van city like a certain kind of music they forget about everything else, hard music came and went in 99-02 and now all anyone wants to hear is fluffy trance and breaks, and im not saying thats wrong but some variety would be nice, but nothing will change till the maijn promoters in the city change things. however if u are a dj that plays hard u really have to play for yourself and most of the time thats the best audience anyways.hey robb if u wanna get to gether and play email me persona;lly with your phone number and we can get together

Well there is a demand for it... even here. I almost saw BK (if it wasn't for a fake ticket I would have), that company is now bringing Lisa Pin-Up, and I also saw them bring Anne Savage.
I don't know much about how the Vancouver scene has operated in the past, I only moved here in March. Where I came from, hard was definetaly in existance, and in neighbouring cities. But you could find all electronic music there. The musical diversity was what I miss the most. Also, I've sent you a PM |

Handing out cds to promoters and generally being a nice guy is the best way to get booked if you're not hooked up with a promotional company. Lookit Charlie 2NA, now he's starting to get noticed. It just takes a little bit of nudging and about 50 cds.
