muxlist announce 9/27/2004
This is a reposting of my latest announcement email to my mailing list. I don't always remember to post this to varying message boards, so if you'd like to receive this email in your mailbox (about once a month, usually less), just send email to "[email protected]" with the word "subscribe" in the subject or body of the message.

Short Video Downloads Holas, This is the ninth email to this newsletter list. News time! **************************************** *************************** 1.) UPCOMING SHOWS! Another batch of shows coming up - next one is this Thursday, September 30th, at the new techno clubnight "Traffic" held at Club23. The setting is nice, there's cheap beer ($7.50 pitchers or something like that, iirc), a nice big dancefloor and an excellent soundsystem. Also spinning that night will be DJ NuMix spinning hard techno, and my personal fave techno DJ, G.I.Jody, spinning acid techno. I'll be playing an hour-ish set starting at around 11:00pm-11:30pm. Club23 is at 23 West Cordova - walkable from either Waterfront or Stadium SkyTrain stops, with the Waterfront walk being a bit less sketchy... ;) Cover is $5, unless you manage to hook up with me sometime between now and then, in which case I can score you a couple of free passes. ;) Next booked show after that is actually in Halifax, Nova Scotia, so I doubt very many folks on this list will be able to make it out! On October 15th, I'll be playing a 1.5h set from 1:30am - 2:30am at Reflections Cabaret, alongside DJ Tommyknuckles and probably another DJ or live-pa to be announced. Saturday, October 30th, mark your calendars - well, ok, don't bother, you'll remember this one anyway. ;) HALLOWEEN PARTY NIGHT - we all wish that it was the 31st, but that's a Sunday, so the big parties are all on the 30th. We, otoh, are throwing a smaller party with a maximum capacity of 250 people - our Pod6 crew is taking one room, while the crew from Intimate Productions (the guys behind Cheeky, etc) are taking the other room. The lineups: Cheeky room: (electro/breaks/progressive) - NUDLZ vs. Mack Hardy - Tantra vs. Johnny Fever - Team Trainwreck (aka Abasi + Dr. Jones + Glyn) Pod 6 room: (tech-house/techno/live PA) - Stormchild vs. Granolaboy - Anisotropic (aka Jeff Griffiths) - MUX (Live PA) - GI Jody If last year's Halloween party is any indication, this is *the* party to be at - our decoration crews are meeting up later this week to discuss how they're going to transform the venue. Tickets are a measly $10, and should definitely be purchased in advance. I've been asked to perform a set of live-pa acid techno at a small rave techno party on November 27th - I don't have too many details (or rather, I'm kinda fuzzy on which details I'm allowed to release), so here's the bits I think I can talk about: the party is called "Just What The Doctor Ordered", it'll have a capacity of about 150 people (read: intimate and underground), the soundsystem is *very* capable, and there'll be at least three live-pa acts, with probably at least one more. Sounds like a blast! Oh, and I've also been talking with the crew behind the wicked "Kcuf Ouy" techno night, every second Thursday at Lick - they're interested in having me back sometime between now and Christmas, so I'll drop another note to this list when I know more. **************************************** *************************** 2.) Listening Room 2004 pics Well, unfortunately, my set at the Listening Room 2004 didn't get recorded - well, technically, it did, but the levels were way too hot, and ended up with really nasty distortion on pretty much every kick. Suck! Oh well, there's always next year - and Erin has some footage on her camcorder that might possibly be able to be layered over top of the distorted recording to make for a half-decent mix... or something. We'll see. Aaaaanyway, a bunch of different photographers took pictures of the event - there's a bunch of links to photo collections at: http://www.listeningroom.ca WELL worth a look! If you missed the Listening Room, you missed out on a *fantastic* party - make sure you get tickets early next year, we were sold out by 5pm this year and didn't even open the doors until 9pm... **************************************** *************************** 3.) Short Video Downloads Courtesy of Dave "Crash" Collins, I've got two short (~15 megs each) video clips that are well worth the glance. Dave took these using his digital camera: http://lfo.fsck.org/~drew/mux_seamripper_breakdown.mpg http://lfo.fsck.org/~drew/mux_collaborate_lrc2k4.mpg Quick and dirty, but they give a good idea of what the Listening Room was like. :) **************************************** *************************** Anyhow, that's it for this edition of the MUX announce list. Stay tuned, check out the free MP3's on my site, and if you're in Vancouver I hope to see you at Traffic at Club23 this Thursday! Cheers, - Drew. |
