http://www.zedii.co.uk/wandii/temp/Mace_-_AfterLife.mp3
Here it is, i would greatly appreciate comments , opinions, advice, whatever. Im going to finish it up on monday, so it would be really helpful if i could get some feedback. Thanks. By the way, dont mind the part when it fades out and the rest after it, its a demo, so thats going to be taken the fuck out :) Last edited by Hero.Skye; Jan 28, 05 at 05:59 PM. |

Dude that sucked. Not to get you down but that track was really boring and the sound is really muddy. These links should help you out.

Had a listen. I don't think the mix is that far off, actually. The sounds fit together pretty well.
I liked the kick, but that's about where it stopped for me. The growly 303 synth in the first half was cool, but really need to evolve in some way, and I really don't care for the pattern (the old trance dutdutduuuh-dutdutduuuh-dutdutduuuuh thing). At the 2-minute mark, the nice synth that comes in has me interested, but then you drop the pitch down to a different scale (why change the scale there?) and then go off on that arpeggio... that bugs me a lot, especially since the arpeggio doesn't seem to be in the same key as the bassline - it's like you're playing a D# minor scale in the arpeggio, while the bassline is a repeating F note. Your percussion is almost all TR-909 samples - not that that's a particularly bad thing, but it's a bit overplayed. You might try looking at hollowsun.com for some individual hits from less popular drum machines. I'm not sure what to make of your song structure - instead of verse/chorus/verse, you seem to be doing more verse/verse2/verse3. Your tracks should definitely start somewhere and progress to somewhere different, but you should always reference where you've been... like, why did that growly synth run for half the song and then stop completely? I'd be curious to see how much of this was sampled loops, and how much was individual samples... |

finally, someone whos actually listened and can give me a few tips. Actually, none of this was sampled, i used recycle to change the sound of a few kicks and all that. but ya, im thinking of taking out the beginning and actually make it go with the second verse. But then again, its just a demo to get feedback on and see what i could improve. And ya, im going to take out that bassline too, it doesnt sound right at all. Thanks alot for the feedback, ill get another version up when i get into the studio. take it easy.

needs a bit more melody... maybe something that follows a scale rather than random note movements... and some more effects would help out too... sometimes a little reverb can turn copper into gold... maybe add a delay to one of the synth tracks and slowly filter up and down... thats a good way to make things trippy...
