Think what you will. At least I'm honest enough to say so. Free downloads yes. But I still have to burn disks which I pay an extra copy fee on and use the internet which also costs cash. Bottom line in this industry vinyl or cd all the DJ's playing out pretty much don't have permits to play the records they buy at shops or the tracks they purchase online anyway. I've spent well over $20,000 on vinyl in the last 5 years. I have no shame in playing cdrs. The raw vinyl sales might not come back to the producer. But who do you think is gettig paid to fly around the world and DJ? So really are cdrs that bad or just a free means of promotion like a flyer you get at shop? .......Do you download?

In todays EDM scene record labels are barely making any money
ID&T crashed and burned at the end of last year, Armada and Black Hole are in a slump, playing illegal mp3s isnt helping the scene grow. Good that you spent alot of money on buying vinyls but so did I, and I have never in my life played an illegally downloaded mp3 and never will. If you didnt buy the track on vinyl or from a digital store If you dont have permision from the artist or label to play it then dont And trust me, writing CDR next to all of your trax doesnt make you a better DJ or helpt your career :) |

Listen pal. It's not about being a better DJ. I post my setlist so people have an idea of what I sound like. And It's not like I don't buy vinyl anymore. I decided to play a cdr set for something different, for fun (Do you remember back when that is what it was all about?). Your reaction was anticipated. The whole deal is a very heated issue. You have your beliefs I have mine. I still believe that as a producer the return comes from gigs not record sales. Thats great you only play and have played vinyl. By your comments you must have a SOCAN membership, get all your tracks from the producers or you are playing your vinyl illegaly like the rest (Downloaders/purchasers) of us. If these labels are struggling well lets ask the producers how much they are making off DJ'ing/Touring.These guys get paid to travel the world. Fine Restaurants, The best hotels etc..You say Blackhole and Armada are in trouble how can that be. Tiesto's "Parade of the Athletes" cd was In the top Fourty for weeks. I know there are little guys too. And I find their tunes at the shops. Some tracks however are massively pressed and for the most part those are the tunes I download. Honestly I would rather have the vinyl of an mp3 I've obtained any day.(I've puchased alot because I found a particular tune downloading). And as the advocate of vinyl you are I respect your opinion, the industry needs guys like you. But I ask that you do the same for me. I'm all about sound. If you were to ask me at a show what I'm playing I'll always tell you or show you the record. I'm not claiming anything as my own. In the end for most people it's about the music experience not about "so and so's mix of whatever". I'll be on cjsf 90.1 again April 27th with a full vinyl set dedicated to you and your cause. No bad blood like I said I respect your opinion. I hope you can do the same.

Playing things off 'CDR' is ok in my books, everyone has their reasons for doing it. I especially see no problem with it when someone has been involved in the scene for a long time and regularly purchases/plays vinyl. A 'CDR' is an unsigned or unrleased track, either leave the space blank or put the correct label, otherwise you are just asking to be flamed. If you are posting tracklists on the internet I believe it's inapropriate (and pointless) to call a track that is released on a lable a 'CDR'. At least do the research and track down the label of the track you downloaded, other people will be encouraged to purchase the track if they like it!

Ok now we are getting somewhere. In the future I'll put download beside the tunes. I put cdr so that people would know that it's a download or direct track. I'll be more specific with my labling. If I know the label I'll put it down but still say If it's a DL. There I'll start a new one DL for download. I'm going to put this to rest. Like I said I'll play a full vinyl set on the 27th dedicated to you(Tatfoon). This set was just for fun. I don't usually play too many DL's/CDR's. I'm over this thread and will not reply any longer. For some good trance check out LUCEs this friday. If you come down say hi(tayfoon) so we can chat In person. Thanks Danny for being the mediator. :+=

So I've edited my lists and for the future I'll put {DL} for the downloads. It's been a while since I posted tracklists (since before downloading and playing cd's was common) so I'm gald that I've got this straightend out. Tayfoon you don't need to come across so rude. If you have a problem with my post why not send me a personal e-mail and I wouldl fix it. Voiceing your opinion, despite good intent in a rude manor takes away from the general intent of this post which is to promote one of Vancouvers best kept trance secrets. Why haven't you played on the show yet? Like I said in my previous message I'm over this. To those have tuned into this dramatic post, sorry. Be shure to tune in every WEDS @ 12am 90.1 fm for the best trance/dj's in Vancouver. :+=

I didnt mean to make this look like a personal attack
Many of my friends are getting pissed that their work gets played illegally on the radio, as they should. And after seeing many people pass off Downloaded tracks as promotional CD-R's, I had to state my opinnion in the matter. |
