Can you explain what The "proces" and "lo contour" functions actually do?
What exactly is a limiter?
I use the Waves L3 on my master output bus durning my final mixdowns and it magically makes it sound good. I have no idea what it actually does. Is there any relation between a compressor and a limiter? if so, you can explain using compression lingo bc im familiar with that concept

Process refers to how much of the dry mix gets mixed with the "wet" signal (in this case the sonic maximizer) or how much you want the compressor to compress, through the LR master bus. Lo contour i have no idea cuz ive never touched it other than creating clarity in the lowend im not sure about that dial.
Compression usually refers to signal that is reduced above a set user defined threshold. So by reducing the highest peaks and bringing up the quieter sounds in relation you can get a more cohesive track. Compression is far too complex for me to go into because im very lazy. There is overall mix compression, multiband compression, drum bus compression, etc . each one youll have to learn how to mix properly to fit the tune your working on. Sometimes you wont need compression at all. Compression becomes limiting at hi ratios like 15:1 or 20:1+ depending on your limiter. So almost nothing passes through every sound is reduced to a certain db then boosted at the output stage. (we percieve loudness as "sounding good") =) So thats why the L3 can be magical.
