New tune! its electro clash, dnb, 80's synth pop, john-B'ish

Hey all! here's my latest little weekend project. I attempted a new style called "Electro Clash" or "Nu Electro dnb". (those familiar with john b and his nu electro label will recognize the sound).

Link to the full length finished tune:
Justin Todd - Last Train to Neptune

It's quite fast paced and very synthy and melodic. Tell me what you think!! I know it sounds pretty cheesy... electro dnb is definatly an aquired taste.

This tune is great. Very good use of melodic layering, and I'm diggin the sounds you used. Only constructive critisism is that I think that perhaps the sequencing and structure of the track could use a little work. Keep it up man!

Thanks! But, no comments on the mixdown/mastering :P!? My mixdowns are weaksauce compared to yours haha. Do all the elements sit well in the mix? are there any frequencies that should be boosted/atennuated?

It sounds like a rough mix. Personally when I approach a track I'll work out all the sequencing with the mix in a fairly rough state (I figured this was probably where you are at with this) and then take the mix on from scratch once I'm happy with the structure.

Sonically there are a few problems, and the balance could def be fine tuned. To be honest mix details are a bit too much for me to go over on a message board with only an mp3 to reference. I'd be happy to chat with you about it in person and with the session up.

not bad Justin.

Your lead synth is too delayed for my taste. It could play a bit tighter than it is. I know what your tryng to do with the synth by making it sound lose and airy. John B vibes all around dude. Most likely the best tune you've written so far. great electro style sounds and good work on your breakdowns.

Your mixdown sounds better on this tune aswell. Keep up the good work Justin.

When you say this, you mean bounce everything down to an audio track and make a new project, correct? I had one of my songs mastered professionally a few months ago and the engineer told me to bounce everything down with just a tiny bit of headroom (attenuating a big source signal is better than boosting a small signal i suppose). He was able to put it all back together and made it sound amazing. I attempted this same strategy on my own with a song a while back and I completely butchered it.. i just couldnt get it to sound right. Its amazing how changing a few db's can completely fuck up your tune. From that point on i decided to take the Mix-as-you-go strategy. I'd really like to have you help me run trhough the mixdown process so i can learn how to do it properly. We should set somethin up.

Yea I have a lot of reverb on it.. I'll try drying it up a bit. that might make it sound tighter, youre right.

The next tune is going to be BIG! I just started it last night. it'll easily be my best one to date.
