try to get away from the kick/hat/snare/hat drum beat .. be a bit more creative .. theres already 30 billion electronica tracks with the same beat. n' if you just add minimal sounds over it, its hard to keep interested enough to listen ..

Thats just my opinion though.

if you're making house music, it's hard to get away from the kick hat snare hat kick hat snare hat drum beat... it may not be your thing, but it works for thousands upon thousands of others... personally I kind of agree with you and would prefer to be able to spend my time and energy making a genre I can be more creative with the beats in, but as much as I love breaks, it doesn't get me booked to play shows and it's not going to get me signed to a record label, as sad as that makes me to admit... so house it is!

I've had a great time working with house music so far, met tons of awesome new people and learned many great things about production techniques to use a minimal amount of elements to best effect... I've still got a lot to learn though, which is sweet! :D

thanks for the listen and thanks for the add Dalyn

i understand what you mean about the drums tho , how it doesnt really end up bein house if you change the beat.. thats why I got sick of makin most kinds of electronica. hiphop / breaks allows for full creativity

well then maybe have breakdowns and build up and climax and stuff. . theres not much structure its just like basic drums, then a lil sound here, lil sound there.. slowly mixing in

house is meant to be like alive and funky.. jumps out at you .. to me its not really house if its verry minimal

search thru albums upon albums and find good sax and piano samples you can chop up into ur songs..

there's the tough part... being able to look through decades of funk, soul, jazz, hiphop, all to find that one sample that jumps out at you... then 90% of the time when you add it, it sounds whack, LoL

the trippy background sample in the first part of the bassline on System Error is one of those... taken from the intro of a James Brown & The JBs tune, chopped up and pitched to fit

the style I make is intentionally minimal, because it's not really meant to be listened to from start to finish, but to be mixed in and out quickly in a set of similar styled tunes... but I do agree about breakdowns... those are my weak point for sure... can never think of what to do with them!

lately I've been finding hiphop acapellas with a positive vibe and message (or just really nice soulful sounding ghetto harmonizations) and time-stretching them to be able to drop over my minimalistic house sets... creates a really good vibe :D
