April 17th Show
Started it off uptempo and funky today with my current favorite summer jam - Diesler "Charmed". Followed that up with lots of heavy funk for all you out there (Sharon Jones, Poets Of Rhythm with a very James Brown-esque tune), some original samples (Joseph Henry), and some remakes/covers (Lefties Soul Connection version of DJ Shadow's "Organ Donor"!!)

Moved to hip hop and ran with it for about the next hour or so. There's a cover of Kanye West's "Gold Digger" called "George Bush Don't Care Bout Black People" - which was a song about the Katrina disaster and the government's respose to the crisis. Since covers seemed to be a theme in today's show, I threw in a cover of Kill Bill's "Bang Bang" by Kardinal Offishall as well.

I have a new favorite Gnarls Barkley song too - "Smiley Faces". Throw in some Bun B, J-Live, Fatlip (which I'm starting to appreciate years later), Sergio Mendes (Yes Yes Ya'll!!), Blackalicious, Damien Marley, Chicharones, J-Dilla, J5 and a whole lot more and you got a hot mix of mostly new shit. Oh and the HUGE announcement - A TRIBE CALLED QUEST RE-UNION @ BUMBERSHOOT THIS SUMMER!!

As always, the show ends where it never begins, and this time I went with a brother and sister tag team. First up is a remix of a Quantic song (one of my fav producers) followed by his sister Alice Russell. There's defininitely something going on in that talented family.
