Why does a tattoo have to have meaning?

Sure you shouldn't be out getting tattoos with no thought behind them, but if someone wants to get a big ugly tattoo on their arm because they like the way it looks...why not?

If getting some tribal arm band to look cool at the beach is what they want to imprint on their bodies for the rest of their lives to remind them how cool it was back in the day or whatever, so be it. Its their bodies.
