Soundwave 2007. Advice and Info.

This is a "Hey You!" to anyone who's been to Soundwave and wants to talk about the upcoming party... I could use some advice on one or two questions.. figured other people might find a thread handy as well.

T, Wood, Glyn, I'm throwin this your way.. but anyone else who wants to chime in is welcome.

One initial question is about taking the ferry over. SW's website seems to strongly avoid using Horseshoe Bay at all, but as long as we've got reservations, what could be the issue?... Seems fine to me.

Looking forward to this!

First person to mention Shambhala in this thread gets a kick in the junk/box!

dave, as long as you have a reservation, it is fine. it is a bit of a hairy terminal, but reservations trump all.

we brought food last year, lots of food. the vendors there were so tasty though, there was no reason to bring food.

also, best bet is to try and arrive during the day. nothing sucks more than having to set your tent up by flashlight. as well, the islanders tend to take the best spots on the tuesday prior to going. if you can get there early in the week, it is better for you.

I am not attending, but I think as long as you have a reservation for the ferry it shouldnt be a problem.

Reserve a ferry space.
Arrive early, space goes fast.
Bring beer, much beer.

Be ready for Alex Paterson.

I've already advised the posse that minimal food is needed.

I'm gonna book to leave at 1pm Thursday. I think this is the best we can do. Should give us plenty of daylight to set up shop.

Food goes either way, we packed and bought cuz it's nice to have fruit and bread in the morning.

quality across the board in terms of DJs but Alex, Deadbeat, Crackhaus, Tomas Jirku live's pa, Chris Lima, The Mole playing live...

Tswawassen/Duke Point ferries I find are nicer views and less likely to be full than the Horseshoe Bay ferries. They take a little while longer but if you are on a vehicle it dumps you out right on the island highway. If you go to Horseshoe you need to cut through just about all of Nanaimo to get to it.

What can I expect in terms of searches and the like? I expect there'll be a police roadblock at some point along the road, but presumably if we have alcohol sealed and stowed it'll be alright?

Seal and stow and you'll be fine. the road into the campsite from the highway is one of the nastiest, most ungodly things I've ever ridden and the cops won't face that. Never seen or heard of a road block after the last two years of being there. Site security however will be driving around on atv's at all hours, so pack a cup and stow yer cans.

honestly, booze-wize they won't really care as long as you're not obvious. Don't bring glass and bring alternate cups and keep you beer cans out of sight and you'll be fine.

btw, timeslots are a bit of a bitch for Soundwave. The only stage that has posted timeslots is the Liquid Soul Stage Most of the stages won't post the slots till the last minute, or you won't know until you actually get there - and more often than not it's only sort of accurate...

The Renegade Beach Stage is infamous for refusing to post any timeslots at all.
