ATTN: Rawb
Yo brutha.
I'm thinking on switching over to a MacBook Pro for work - everyone else in our office uses Windows-based machines. (Yes I know that I can dual boot into Windows with a MacBook Pro but that kinda defeats the purpose of having one I think.) Anyway, my question is (and sorry if it's dumb), but I should be able to access our corporate network shares via this new MacBook right? -- Of course taking into account the necessary security (username, password, etc.) I should be able to see those shares from my MacBook? I ask because our IT guys aren't Mac guys. I would hate to make the switch and then realize that I can't access what I need to. Let me know! |

Mac's have samba, which is able to connect to and read/write corporate shares no problem. We have macs running in our office and connecting to our windows shares fine.
Things to take into consideration are if you need to VPN into work remotely you may need to shell out for some special software, or if theres any special niche programs you absolutely need for work (are you MS Exchange heavy? Do you do Visios?). |

^^ Thanks bro... I figured since this is a corporate laptop and that the IT guys aren't really gonna do any of the repairs here, that it makes the most sense.
So I have another question for ya. I have a corporate ASP-based app that is only supported/runs through Internet Explorer. (Yeah I know lame.) I use Firefox or Opera as my primary browser and would jump back to IE if I needed to use that app for anything on my PC laptop. Now that I've switched over to Mac, obviously MS isn't making IE for Mac. Any suggestions or ideas? Cheers. |

there is an IE for mac, but it's pretty weak. i still haven't found a browser that can properly display MS exchange webmail/OWA on a mac yet.
i get around it by connecting to vpn on my mac (found a cisco client) and remoting into a windows terminal server at work. maybe you could do the same thing for your ASP app if IE for mac doesn't work out. |

Yeah IE for Mac and IE for Windows are two very different programs. IE for Mac is kind of Microsoft trying to convince the governments of the world that they're not a monopoly because they don't lock people into Windows for their software.
That being said, I think they dropped support for it years ago. |

For you PC-based peeps thinking on switching over to Mac... and you have 5-10000 pieces of email to move over from Outlook with organized folders.
Little Machines - cheap inexpensive app that saved my ass today. |

Kick ass. Found this handy little app - VM Ware's Fusion that allows you to run a virtual simultaneous Windows XP or Vista session! It runs super fast. So now all I have to do is run that virtual session to run my apps.
